I've just rescued this from the blog section as you won't get many replies on there.

Vintage Eriba age
Hi.

I have just bought a vintage Eriba caravan and am now beginning to wonder if the age I was given is correct (1979?). My estimate is that it is maybe a 1987 model or at least somewhere in the 80s.
The VIN plate details are:
VGNpanfam00255289
Unladen weight: 690kg
Laden weight: 850kg
Nose weight: 75kg

The Panfam part of the Eriba suggest it is an Eriba Pan Familia but there is nothing on this plate (near the door) that gives away the age. I have read various forums. These suggest things such as looking at another plate on the chassis to other plates on internal cupboards (non existent!). There is indeed another plate on the chassis but it does not seem to indicate the age at all. Would appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks.

See this thread :-How to date your Eriba which refers to a thread on the French Forum. Post 6 on that thread shows the serial numbers listed by our French Friends :-http://forumeribatouring.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=181

Your number (255289) falls between numbers 253490 (1989) and 255426 (1991) on the Pan Familia list. Therefore I would assume it is 1990 or 1991.

Nice looking van Colin and built to last. It would appear that they are hard to come by in Ireland. Did you have to go abroad to purchase her?

Hi Randa.

Not quite abroad. We took the ferry and bought the van from a lady in Yorkshire after a fruitless search here. As far as we know there are no Vintage Eribas in Ireland for sale. The last one that came up for sale here was 7 years ago somewhere near Limerick.

We do have a few members from Ireland but I can't remember who they are at the moment. They'll probably introduce themselves shortly.

Don’t suppose you know if a caravan of this age needs to be registered? It will be used primarily in the UK but will go to France with us once a year.

Vans owned in the UK are not registered (as far as I'm aware ).

We take ours abroad for many months every year and we always take proof of ownership documents and insurance documents with us.
