Anyone explain the reason for the rear shelf in my Puck?

As it's getting very close to the start of the second season in my 2005 Puck, I'm doing a few upgrades to the layout based on my 'first year' experiences.

Now I'm not daft, I am not going to destroy the originality of my van as I know that this counts when it comes to resale but the biggest headache (literally 😳) last year was the small rear shelf that had only one purpose IMO and that was to bash my head in the middle of the night!!

Obviously, the owners of larger models won't have a clue what I'm talking about but tips from Puck owners are very welcome before the shelf gets removed!!!!

My Puck 1993 only had shelves down each side and at the rear an overhead cupboard, the side shelves had the curtain rail and useful storage on top.

Thanks poptop. I have seen pictures of earlier pucks that didn't have the rear shelf and that's my thinking for removing it as it would improve sleeping comfort totally.
It appears to be only held in by 3 screws so could be easily put back in if I ever decided to sell.

Sometimes the table rail is on a small rear shelf so check that if you use the table inside.

Absolutely correct hob. I've already bought one of those table rails as mentioned on this forum in the past, the idea is to fit the rail on the back wall in place of the shelf.
Update....I've just removed the shelf this morning, 3 screws and it was off in less than 5 minutes. Looks like a simple job to fix the new rail on.
No more lumps on the head 😊 Just got to remember to duck when leaving/entering the van now!!!
