First ever trip in new Troll now completed

Just returned from a fabulous weekend at Coniston Park Coppice CC club site with friends.

We had a really good try out and so did the Eriba with the rain hammering down during Friday and Saturday nights like it was the end of the world.
Saturday however dawned bright and sunny and we had a spectacular few hours of walking in the surrounding area.

Warden wanted to know all about the troll, believing it to be fixed bed (its not, we just made it before travelling) The owners of a Bailey Unicorn that are tempted to downsize also loved the troll. I pointed him in the direction of the official main dealer and this forum.
We left the top up all weekend of course, even during the heaviest rain and remained totally dry as one would expect.

Embarrising confession time, (arrived, prepared to un-hitch and show off the fully automatic mover to the neighbours , only to discover the remote control was in the kitchen 107 miles away. It was the the one thing missing from our check list but not anymore

Now back home and the Eriba is washed and cleaned and under the carport with top up and fan heater on inside for a really thorough drying of the canvas.
Seats are all covered from new with sacrificial fleece blankets so her ladyship there isn't doing any damage.

On the subject of seats, we have been really disappointed and saddened by the response of the dealer and Hymer themselves over the handling of a faulty seat replacement.
One of the front dinette seats has a fault, its a fault line that runs the length of the seat from front to back and looks like the loom just missed a thread when they were making the cloth. Very poor quality control, this defect was noted when we bought the troll and a promise was made that it would be replaced. Sadly, neither the dealer nor Hymer seem willing to actually do anything about it which really is a shame as it has totally destroyed my confidence in the dealer and Hymer themselves whom washed their hands of the matter at the first contact.

Oh well, one lives and learns.

Looking forward to the next trip and would welcome suggestions for independent service people with experience of Eriba.

Don't let the dealer (who is legally responsible by contract of sale - I'm assuming this is a brand new van ) or Hymer get away with it , be , name and shame and make sure they know that you will ! It is up to the dealer to claim expenses for rectification work from Hymer, that's their problem, not yours !

Any way glad you love your Eriba, and hope you get the seat sorted :)

The van looks great and it sounds like you had a smashing time, pester your dealer for your seat and if they don't want to pursue the fault contact Hymer directly with this email. Kundendiest@hymer.com

My 2012 Familia developed a fault in its first year with one of the seats, the lower foam front face had pulled away from the top. I had bought the van for AL but it was too far for me to return, Lowdhams in Huddersfield kindly chased Hymer in Germany and they agreed for me to contact a local upholstery and they would pay the bill. I actually managed to fix it myself with some carpet glue so I didn't take them up on the offer.

Look carefully at your warranty the first year is very comprehensive and it also includes your seats.

New vans have a two year Hymer warranty as well as the 6 year water ingress warranty, only as long as it has been regularly serviced and damp checked.
The two year warranty is stepped:
1st year is comprehensive and includes all original fit components.
2nd year excludes tyres, glass, paint& brightwork, soft furnishings, carpets floor coverings, work surfaces, window catches, electrical connections, natural movement of internal doors and furniture, audio equipment.

When I go on holiday I like to pop my top!

Having a van that is too old to worry about warranty I hadn't read all the blurb.
Now you've listed what's excluded from the 2nd year warranty I'm wondering what is left?

Couldn't agree more. Let them get away with it now and no doubt they will try it again with future customers if not yourself at a later date when you need to make another claim against the warranty although hopefully this won't arise.

Yes, no way I'd let them get away with not putting your seat right. Eriba charge a very high price for their vans. For that, you should get quality. Otherwise, we'll all go and buy bigger vans for a lot less.

If the dealer or hymer continue to ignore your requests contact your local trading standards, they will be keen to help.
