Seem to be very popular with folk down under. I need to 'shove up a slight incline' for about 2 meters to get our caravan into its parking space. It is on Cobblelock and I figure one of these would be a gift, take the back strain out of it. Anyone any knowledge of them ?

Never heard of them, a quick google search seems to indicate they are only available in Australia. Have you considered a winch of some sort?
I had one on a trailer once for loading heavy engines maybe you could rig something up?

Thanks to that nice Mr Frantone, we've carried a hand winch for several years :-

We've never had to use it however. Probably great for pulling the van but not much good for pushing the van

I was going to ask if it made your arm ache, but I suppose you've got used to it by now.

Where do you put it when you go out for a meal or to the pictures?

Do you have to ask the owners of restaurants if they've got somewhere you can leave your hand winch?

I expect you have to be very careful in the library. It'd make a heck of a din if you dropped it.

We've found that by leaving it on the seat next to us, it ensures that we get plenty of elbow room while at the pictures or in a restaurant.

We did get into trouble in the library once however when the chief librarian didn't notice it and sat down in the seat beside us. There was a hell of a din but not for the reasons you suggested.

That sounds like a good idea. A much better idea than taking one or other of our children and leaving it on the seat next to us.

They don't always want to go to the same places or see the same films as us, and occasionally there's a bit of an argument about it. Nothing worse than having a sullen child muttering darkly all the way through Duck Soup or Horse Feathers.

I'll have to think about one for next Christmas.

I'm not sure that you're the right person to ask since you were the beneficiary of Uncle Tony's largesse, but are they expensive at all?

Yes, Tony passed it on to us when his kids left home but I imagine it is a lot cheaper than having to pay for meal for a gang of kids. It doesn't eat much after all.

Care has to be taken with a question like that! winches are quite reasonable ............. but wenches on the other hand are quite high maintenance

I always suspected our council's pest control operatives of having a nice little sideline selling rodent droppings to tool manufacturers.

Mine has recently stopped doing that. Mind you, he is 47.

Back to the point.
I used a hand winch for a couple of years when pulling my Troll into the garage. It was a bit of a faff, but easier than pushing 1300kg of van up gravel by hand through a very tight gap. Only problem was I eventually ripped the teeth of the [correctly rated] winch leaving the van teetering in the garage doorway for several hours whilst sufficient manpower could be found to complete the task.
I have a motor mover on present van and all I now need is a second pair of eyes to guide. What a fabulous invention.

What a wonderful Forum.. From Ratchet Jockey Wheels to Duck soup to Horse Feathers to Rodent droppings and back to Jockey Wheels in a very short space. What did I start ! Anyway.. back to Ratchet Jockey Wheels. I have a Trailer Winch - off a Boat Trailer. Not exactly anywhere to anchor it in the front cobblelock garden unless I insert a trip hazard. Is there somewhere suitable on the rear of an Eriba to connect the Hook to if I did ? The Ratchet Jockey Wheel looked the job but I am not planning a trip down under soon, so possibly impossible to get one this side of the world. They look the job and seem popular where available. Odd that nobody this side of the world sells them. Seem AL-KO even make version but now available from their distributor here.

Chris,
I used to loop the cable around the axle and pull the van into the garage backwards. I protected the axle with an old bike innertube that I had wrapped around it.

Interesting Colin, I might have a look at doing that. The distance really is so short but its on a slight incline and its back breaking. I kind of have to " reverse park" it into a spot that the car cant line up with. Its to one side of the drive in with a raised bed in front. I managed it fine with my son but its really difficult alone.

Wenn Sie hier auf Links zu eBay klicken und einen Kauf tätigen, kann dies dazu führen, dass diese Website eine Provision erhält.

When I worked for a living I often had to deal with what is known as crane riggers who used nylon slings of various strengths and lengths one round the axle would do fine ................ remember you are dragging it on its wheels not lifting it so no need to go mad weight limit wise ......... it was also suggested that they were tested to 7 times their lifting limit so a one ton one should do fine

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=nylon+slings&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xcrane+slings.TRS0&_nkw=crane+slings&_sacat=0

Not that expensive and no need to protect the axle.
