Battery charging

Good evening,

After having taken delivery of our 2012 Familia 320 & a ' reasonably' successful first outing to Lytchett Manor caravan park in Dorset! My question is this...caravan is now safely parked on the drive, alarm set, taking power from the onboard leisure battery, do I need to connect the mains hook-up all the time, or every now & again. Also, how can I tell the state of the battery 'health?' Be grateful for any advice.

If you have a multimeter you can use this chart

Battery voltage indications:

12.7 Volts or more = 100% charged
12.5 Volts = 75%
12.4 Volts = 50%
12.2 Volts = 25%
12 Volts or less = Discharged

taking power from the onboard leisure battery

How do you mean taking power ........ what is using power?

Personally I just hook mine up for a couple of days approximately every 6 weeks,. Just before going on holiday I will put the van on charge for two days and turn the fridge on so that it is up to temperature and the motor mover will be ok. As you have an alarm you will have to see what kind of drain it has on your battery to judge the intervals.

Zitat is German for quote, background forum software is German.

As said check the voltage with a multimeter and if it gets between 50% and 75% put it on charge by plugging the van it to the mains.
