How many gas bottles?

Hi, we got our Eriba Puck 120 (2001) a few weeks ago. It came with 2 gas bottles (4.7kg butane), both in the gas locker at the front. However one of the bottles fits easily, the other won't go to the bottom of the carrier. It appears too small for 2 bottles. Is this the case? Should we using Camping Gaz? Thanks

We carry both. The propane is for emergency use in the UK and the CampinGaz similarly on the Continent.

In practice we seldom use gas other than to fuel the Cadac and the propane bottle is the same one we bought when we got the van in 2011.

If you have the space carry two. Imagine the situation you are on a CL no hook up, you have 1 gas bottle and are running the fridge, cooking and keeping warm on a Sunday evening, the gas bottle runs out..oh b****r, no cooking or heating and the beers are getting warm until you can get a new bottle on Monday morning.

With 2 bottles, just connect the second and get the empty filled when convenient and you keep warm and refreshed and no stress!

If you are in the U.K. I would try to stick with Calor, Camping Gaz is VERY expensive, A fill for a Camping Gaz 907 bottle (2.75kg) is approx £35.00. 4.5 kg of Calor butane is £17.00 or 3.9 Kg of propane £16.00.

I always carry two as I'm mostly off grid. In my Triton I am able to fit 2 x 7kg cylinders. Added advantage is that it helps bring up the noseweight :)

There are a number of things to consider as mentioned like going abroad or just UK use how often will you use the van ....... long trips or just weekends
winter as well as summer butane will stop working at around freezing point propane is better for winter use.
Electric hookup sites or not (fridge can run on gas or electric)

From what I remember there is no gas heater in a Puck so its just cooking and maybe the fridge using gas.

For me I mainly only use mine in summer and in the UK nearly always on hookup I often cook outside on various appliances and carry an oil filled radiator if I need heat so I use little in the way of gas anyway.

Had my Triton for about 3 1\2 years now and it came from Holland without a cylinder I fitted one 7 Kg propane used the van for 135 nights away so far and still on the same cylinder

If you plan similar usage you may want to take one with you and leave the other at home in the garage as a spare or with a suitable regulator run a gas barbiy with it.

As mentioned the other consideration is the effect on the payload of the van (the difference between the van weight and the max allowed weight) usually around 50 to 70 Kg with a puck ............. 1 x 4.7kg butane is going to weigh a lot less than 2 x 7 kg propane will

Also how cylinder weight affects nose weight.

Well, in France, we use butane in the house, but for external storage we must use propane so that's what we use.
