I think that the 100kg nose weight recommendation applies to the more modern Touring models and I note that the hitch length is longer too. The likes of the Puck might well be different - here a check of the accompanying manual is to be advised. The principal is the same though i.e. that stated in the manual or the tow bar limit.

I think you're on the right track with the rotating theory although I think it's more to do with the effect that braking has on the tow vehicle. With insufficient nose weight which often gives rise to a hitch up attitude there would be a tendency for the van to try and run over the tow ball i.e. lift up the back of the car resulting in reduced braking effect. The opposite is true of course in that a hitch down attitude would result in the van trying to run under the tow car applying even more downward force to the rear tyres, and hence braking, in the process.

Earlier on in our Triton ownership days we too suffered from the difficulty in attaining enough weight up front and in the end placed our collapsed and boxed Outwell kitchen unit that we use in the awning http://www.outwell.com/en/Products/campi...y-kitchen-table up against the front bulkhead along with a collapsed footrest section of an Outwell relax chair along with the vans table stood up on end. The whole lot held in position using a Milenco Cargo Bar which in itself weighs a fair amount http://www.milenco.com/products/safety/cargo-bars . Throw a single 6kg gas bottle in the front box and a few wooden blocks and we managed to up the nose weight to a more reasonable 73kg (up from 56kg). On the Troll 542 we're up to 79kg with some of it down to the new AL-KO Jockey Wheel http://www.al-ko.com/en/vehicle-technolo...um-jockey-wheel . This brings us closer to the 88kg limit of the tow bar so we'll settle for that.

Hi guys - I think I'll go the one 6kg Calor lite propane bottle route and see what happens!
Thanks for all the advice.
Rich

I believe that the Calor Lite is being withdrawn due to issues with the thinner metal used on the bottle (keeps failing certain tests). You can still purchase them today but not sure how long until you would need to consider replacing them. You might want to consider an alternative for the long haul

I had mine changed out, the cylinders affected were manufactured in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

I was also impacted but since then Calor have decided to discontinue and phase out all 6kg gas bottles completely

Interesting, article, it looks like they will be bringing out a replacement in 2018, the gas level indicator is a useful item on the lite bottles..

I agree but doubt the weights will be as low as today, unless they are going to use different materials completely. It looks like I will need to change both mine in the future and at cost
