Brian, you are right about the low tech, simple solution but we spend a lot of camping time on CLs and CSs without a wifi network.

Me and Hitched have a mobile service from Giff Gaff ( our youngest child told me about it and I am ashamed to say my pride prevented me taking this up for nearly a year .... It's the way he told me in a 'I know everything and you know nothing cocky attitude) We now each have 500 minutes including mobiles, unlimited texts and unlimited Internet download for £12 month Goodybag. We both tether own iPads and pc when away. The unlimited data has to be deemed 'reasonable' so we download any films and programmes either before we leave or on our phones when in a wifi zone but still on our iplayer account. Giff gaff are excellent value for money. I can get sims so let me know. Yes I will get £5 credit but so will you! I then get a reduced monthly plan of £7.50 when I am at home and got my home wifi. I now happily do t pay silly site wifi fees. We also have a plug in wifi booster that we use at home for the conservatory and boosts the phone internet signals in the van ( another child suggestion but silly and expensive pride already swallowed but then !)

We're Giff Gaff too and I buy a Goody Bag when we're away but use their PAYG rates when at home as they're much cheaper when you're not using data and only a few calls and texts. I purchased a £10 credit at the end of September, which had dwindled to £6 something by the time they gave out their Payback which gave me another £4.50 or so and my balance now is still £6.50. So I've spent £8 on calls, texts and data in 3+ months. Not bad.
Of course calls and texts to Mrs SDA who's also on Giff Gaff are free.

+1 for Giffgaff. The free Giffgaff to Giffgaff calls & texts are brilliant - we now have the whole family on board. Very low running costs.

I only want to boost the wifi signal on a camp site so that it has more chance of reaching my laptop in my Eriba.

I get the feeling that what you are looking for is similar to a signal booster for a TV aerial signal none of which I ever tried did any good and I assume wifi boosters would be equally useless as trying to boost a poor signal still gives you a poor signal....................

I don't have a mobile so have no idea about things like 3G connections except they cost money

so when away on a site with little or no wifi I just go without

I found an Australian fine mesh booster, it does require a little diy skill
so here is this one instead!

Looks like I am on the same search as Randa and remember discussing this with Frantone at Charmouth. Doubtful we are going abroad this year but I don't want to pay the camp sites, so will investigate the Huawei or whatever above.

I am surprised to hear our illustrious leader Randa is as mystified as I am. Thought he would be ahead of the game with all the latest gadgets by now.
