About 18 months ago, we all had an on-line discussion regarding boosting Wifi signals when on some caravan sites. At that time, we didn't go ahead and purchase anything but now wish to buy something suitable in preparation for next season.
I seem to remember being advised to purchase something that fitted outside the caravan and somebody also suggested that there was a simple DIY method?
Any advice please?

I bought a Huwaei (unlocked) and use '3G' pre-paid sim cards.
The later model Huwaei has provision for an external aerial.
Many people "tether" their mobile phone and use it as a router.

Read the Amazon reviews about using it abroad.

Thanks for that Rod but unless I'm reading you all wrong, what I had in mind was something to plug into my laptop, aerial like, to enhance the sometimes weak wifi signal one gets on some camp sites unless you're right on top of the site reception office

Have you searched CT Roger, there's a whole heap of threads on it.

It does the same job Roger, probably better,
with its external aerial. There are lots of pringle
can adapters to mess about with and wifi enhancers
but I know mine works(and it can be used in France)

I thought there was that much US gear on the seabed that you'll be able to pick up Eastenders in mid Atlantic.

I have been using the Three MiFi for wireless broadband connection for some time now. Because it is wireless it can go on the roof of the Eriba in a small waterproof box or bag if the local signal is weak. We have not used it abroad because we try to use campsite or shop free wifi although I believe you can use a local SIM card.

Yes, that's the point I'm trying to put over Tony. We don't have any fancy phones so all our campsite wifi, at home or abroad, is from the campsite wifi service which, as you know, sometimes comes free and at other times we have to pay for.
If you remember, when we were at Gordes last year, our van was in sight of reception and now and then (but not often) if the wind was blowing in the right direction, we could get wifi on our laptop in the caravan but most of the time we had to go to reception (although it was a good excuse for a cold beer ).
I think that if we had the correct gizmo then we probably could have used the internet in the van at all times.

we ended up putting comp on thick book on hob tup with kitchen window on night catch, it was the only way to use the free wifi in the eriba, slight movement of comp, lost signal completely. the dongle was very signal movement sensitive, until I opened another window.
the blinds seem to restrict if down as well

I just hang the Huawei up by the pop top canvas (inside of course,
no Faraday effect and quite a high point) as I said the more recent
model will accept a plug in external aerial.

The price they charge on some sites I don't really want it...................anyway its nice to get away from all that on holiday sometimes I usually only take the laptop to download photo's and edit \ delete unwanted ones and to play games on it in the evenings if there's nothing on the telly.
