Wheel bolt torques

Yes I realise that the subject of wheel bolt torques has been raised already in the distant past but from a recent experience I feel it might be worth raising the topic once again.

During preparations for the return leg of our recent holiday (the outward leg being approx 1120km) I rechecked the wheel bolt torques of both car and caravan which for me is standard practice. Whilst doing this I discovered that on one wheel two bolts on the caravan had worked themselves free - although still in situ - whilst on the other wheel, one bolt had worked itself free. I think it a fair assumption to make that one or all of these bolts would have been lost during the return journey had they not been refastened and torqued up again.

For those who for one reason or another either opt out of torquing their caravan wheel bolts, or overlooking the matter prior to undertaking a journey, might want to give this question a rethink.

I should really leave it to Mr Deeps to answer the question, but I remember having seen this picture of his Troll.

It could only be his caravan - nobody else is fastidious enough to draw a chalk line on the floor round the end of a stick...

I had to look up settings recently as I had a new Tyre fitted and used the spare in the meantime the answer was

Steel 100

Alloy 120

Now its done 100 miles I must remember to check them.

Something else to consider is that the correct bolts are used, alloy and steel wheel bolts have a different chamfer

A supplementary (daft!) question if I may.... Are these torque figures the same for all Eribas regardless of model and age?

Cheers,
Steve.

They are the same for my 2017 Troll as they used to be for my 2001 Triton, so I would say yes. I also seem to recall them being the same as for other caravan manufacturers and I believe them to be the same as for my car. I suspect this is to do with them all being M12 ? and made using the same tensile strength steel.
