Hello all, my first post to Eribafolk after saying 'hi' on the homepage.
Just taken possession of a Triton 420GT 1989, absolutely original condition in terms of layout and decor. It all looks sound but it is a bit 'of the era' and all that beige and brown is a bit dreary.
Apologies if there are threads on similar, can't quite find the answers I need.
I've taken out the seats/beds and headboard and given a quick clean underneath. Ordered some new foam and I'll be shopping for fabric today.
Here are my questions:
1. the walls are beige flecked vinyl, I'm thinking repaint for simplicity. But what type of paint would be suitable, should I be thinking breathability and do I need to wipe over with anti-mould solution first? Maybe I should be applying new vinyl wallpaper but with the window seals overlapping that looks like a big job. Any advice? Just want to achieve a fresh clean interior with minimum fuss.
2. So I've got these two dogs who aren't allowed on the sofa, but inevitably do! Any tips on wipeable seat coverings that are easy to DIY apply with a staplegun? I'll probably go for fabric back sections.
3. cupboard latches - brown plastic, too awful (apologies to original purists, I'll send them to you if you want them!). Where do I get little square spindles that will fit those latches, if anyone knows what I mean?
4. Anyone got experience of self-adhesive paper/plastic vinyl sheets, thinking I could use on fridge front and some of the cupboards.
Many thanks for all your help. Where do I find photos of other people's revamps?
I haven't asked about the flooring, TBH I'm a bit frightened to take it out in case the van I just bought isn't as sound as it looks on the base. Will face up to it another time!
Claudia xx

Probably good for you and dogs. I made new curtains. The walls were fine so someone else will have to help you with that. There are lots of pics in the gallery.

Hi Claudia
Great to hear that someone else is doing a bit of a revamp
We got our 1986 Puck back in June. She very cute, but like you I cant be doing with the 1980's colour scheme of brown, beige and orange. I've been doing things in a random order based on what I've felt inspired to do and how long I've got before we go off on our next adventure.
Walls
I painted the walls white and it looks so much better. I just cleaned them with sugar soap and then did a coat of multi surface primer, which was horrible stuff but seems to provided a good surface. I then did three coats of white vinyl matt. I didn't worry about breathability but I did use the extra tough paint that is supposed to be scrubable.
It was more of a job than I'd anticipated because there are so many fiddly bits and no opportunity to blaze away with a big roller. Definitely looks clean and fresh - too soon to say how well it will last.
Seats
I've covered over the existing seat covers with throws from IKEA. Not sure it was the best idea as they seem to be stretching, but it was quick and cheap. I used a staple gun for the seats as they have wooden bases. The backs are just foam, so i wrapped them up like Christmas presents and hand sewed them.
Fridge
I've put wallpaper on mine. I used watered down PVA to stick it on and a couple of coats on top to make it wipeable. It turned out better than I'd hoped. Don't be tempted to touch it until the PVA is completely dry or you'll tear the paper
I've also replaced the orange curtains with white roller blinds from IKEA, they fit perfectly on the flat windows but I haven't worked out what to do on the front window yet so we've still got the curtains.
Message me if you've got more questions. Looking forward to seeing some photos once you get started

May I hijack this thread slightly?
If anyone who is re-vamping the interior of a Famillia (especially a mid 70s to early 80s) and is replacing the rear table reads this and would like to re-home the old table then please get in touch - we're after one!
Great pics of the Puck by the way... I wonder if it's necessary to use primer on the vinyl if you use a vinyl emulsion. Just a thought.
Cheers,
Steve.

Not sure about the primer tbh but the guys in the decorating supplies place thought it would be a good idea. They'd never had anyone asking for advice on painting a caravan though!
