Storm straps

Hi,
We're off to Anglesey on Saturday and the wind gusts are predicted to be strong. We have an old Clairval awning on our 97 Triton. I've never bought storm straps and have no idea how to use them. Do we need a certain type? How do they attach?
It's quite an exposed coastal site.
Thanks

Hi Bluebell. We have an old Clairval awning and we bought something like this https://www.caravanaccessoryshop.co.uk/p...wn-kit-12-5m/72
which you have to throw over the entire roof near the front and peg it down (put the pegs in first). There is a spring tensioner that takes up the slight movement.

Once fitted though, I'd place a piece of cloth between the strap and the awning fabric where the strap passes over the side roof poles. This is to protect the awning fabric.

On stating all that however, we haven't used ours for years as we find the Clairval awning will stand up to all kinds of weather including the Mistral.

A tip on using storm straps. Put a couple of twists in the strap otherwise it will vibrate across the roof making a dreadful noise in the wind.
