Roof bed
When we were at the Düsseldorf show a few years back we saw the Hymer Feeling with the roof bed. We decided not to buy it and eventually bought our Eriba Troll 530 as we thought the build was better and preferred the look of it.
Although we love our Eriba we still think the roof bed was a great addition to a small caravan. I would love to see Eriba incorporate this idea one day. Is there any reason they couldn’t?
I thought I had seen this, but must have just been in the Feeling. Comes as part of a 3000 euro option.

I imagine it would be very cold sleeping on the roof Mike and what's to stop you falling off?
Seriously though, the Feeling you saw probably had a high roof like this one :- g20p1207-Eriba-Feeling.html

Following Mike's post and also a discussion I had during last week's meet, I came across this old thread Those were the days...
What I was looking for is a pic of our first campervan Those were the days... and the question of why newer campervans have a forward lifting roof similar to some Eriba Feelings.
With the exception of VW most older campervans used to have the sideways concertina roof and the beauty of this was that it accommodated two lengthways sleeping bunk beds with an ingenious metal folding framework that neatly folded away in the roof space before closing the lid. With the roof and beds open, there was still space to walk down the van between them.
The coachwork was done by Dormobile in Folkstone and, believe it or not, they are still in business after all these years except they've moved to Hampshire http://www.dormobile.co.uk/parts

Yes that’s exactly what we saw. The Feeling was a low roof van with the pop up bed/roof as the picture. It made for the perfect setup as you could sleep in the roof space and use the caravan as per the day setup. I wouldn’t change our Eriba for anything except if they came out with a 530 with a roof like that.

It used to be possible to get an Eriba with a double scissor lift mechanism to gain extra height.
With that and a bed board, such as used in VW style conversions, hooked into the roof there would be a useable bed!

Obviously it would be awkward to access and make the rest of the Eriba dark not to mention being very heavy and decrease the already minimal head height etc etc I was just suggesting that it was a possibility.
Having had and used a roof bed in a VW camper van I know how much fun our grandkids had in it and also how difficult it was for me to get in and out of!

The roof bed in the Feeling pushed up out of the way in the day and gave as much if not more room that the standard roof. As you say it’s more suited for children but I got up there easy enough. Would be great for taking the children away as they could sleep in the roof that would leave us with the double in the caravan and still have the dinette setup for eating. Perfect family caravan:-)

Not sure about the concertina roof, Roger, but that's one hell of a sunroof.
