Hi all.
Has anyone repainted the inside of their van including furniture? My other half wants to so was just wondering what you used? We have a 91 Puck in original condition but wanted to make it more of our own..
Cheers

You will need to thoroughly clean, de-grease and lightly sand all surfaces. You will need a good quality all surfaces primer to start with. I used to use a tile and melamine primer by Leylands who have now been taken over by Johnstones. This would stick to anything including kitchen cupboards and polyurethane varnished surfaces. Please try on a small area and leave for 24 hrs before giving it a scratch test with fingernail to test for adhesion.
If/once all is well then choice of subsequent coats is down to you. I would advise an acrylic eggshell as it easy to apply, non gloss finish hides imperfections and it will not fade or disscolour with age due to lack of light. 2 coats would do but 3 really would be better.

When we bought our '86 Puck earlier this year I also decided to paint the interior. It was all too brown and beige for my liking though in generally good condition. Decided to start with the walls and having painted them white, I've now had a rethink and decided that the 'wood' looks ok. I also used a Johnstone's primer and then vinyl matt emulsion. Seems to be ok, but only time will tell! I also recovered the seat cushions, changed the curtains for roller blinds and wallpapered the fridge.
My advice would be to take things slowly, changing one thing changes the whole look and feel in such a small space.
Also looking forward to seeing the photos

Thanks Jo.. What roller blinds did you use? Where did you buy them from? We've found some from IKEA but need cutting to length, just wondering what else is out there.

I used IKEA blackout blinds. UK blinds come in imperial measurements so don't fit European caravans but the IKEA blinds fit perfectly

I didn't worry about the length, we just pull them down below the bottom of the window. I've kept the elastics that were on the curtains so the blinds are pulled close to the window to keep the light out.
Its worked well so far

The choice of paint brush or roller, or a combination of both, is likely to make a big contribution to the quality of finish. A brush might be used in tight areas and the roller for larger expanses. I'd even consider a few practice pieces on off cuts of wood panel first. You'd get a good feeling for the covering power of the paint. Good undercoat of the correct colour match to the top coat will improve the chances of a good finish.
