Awning Rail Too Low?

An interesting conversation recently took place on Eribafolk Facebook concerning the height of the awning rail when using a sun shade (particularly the Caravanstore in a bag).

Iain Gillespie :- Looking for some help and pictures please...I'm considering fitting a Fiamma Caravanstore 190 to my Puck 120GT for when I'm not staying long enough to justify erecting the full awning. I read that the Caravanstore will foul the door when hanging from the normal awning rail, and fitting a second rail higher up might be better. Anyone and experience of fitting one?

Iain Gillespie I've decided to go for adding a second higher awning rail (£10ish), with the Caravanstore mounting above the door and windows

Screws at each end, and Silkaflex adhesive sealant. It's definitely a permanent fixture! (screws only to hold in place until Silkaflex 221 works)

I've no experience of this but Iain is well pleased with the result. He didn't see the need to pick up on an interior roof support (if there are any) or to use bolts which would of course mean taking the inner curved fabric away to gain access.

I did this on our previous Triton. It worked a treat!

I have done this mod on previous two vans, first back in 2007.
I had wanted to do it on new van but change in roof profile ruled this out.
Second rail ideally needs to be 100mm higher, no more.
I think I used Sikaflex 227 and managed 3 or 4 screws into the steel roof members.
It is a mod well worth considering.
