Purple meths to degrease towball?

Normally use alcohol but stuck on site with rusty ball cos of rain. Can get sandpaper and meths from b&q hopefully. Anyone aware of reason methane demineralised, would be bad?

Meths is alcohol, usually around 90% ethyl alcohol with 10% methanol, some pyridine and a violet dye to stop folk drinking it

So, nip down to B&Q...
