Baby on board, children on board.

Baby on board stickers. We've had a change of opinion on these.

When our kids were small we used to hate the "baby on board" "Princess on board" stickers. However, having recently watched a Police, Camera, Action type program on the telly, the rescue services attending a serious car crash were immediately drawn to the sticker and looked for any little ones in the back.

I suppose the difference between the 70s and now is that then cars has large clear glass windows whereas the trend today is for smaller, heavily tinted rear windows that make it impossible to see in.

Good point Randa except.......... we don't always have the grandchildren on board so if I don't remove and re-attach the notice each journey; the emergency services could end up with a fruitless, time consuming search.

I have never seen the point of these and still don't. Do doting parents and grandparents really think that anyone is going to drive more carefully on seeing this notice displayed? All it does is reduce the visibility for the driver and thus make the occupants potentially less safe.

Surely everyone should drive with care all the time, whether you have a baby or Granny on board?

I totally agree with what you and Stewart say and this is why I considered them as almost a "fashion"item.

It's the fact that they appear to flag up the possibility that there might be a little one on board in the event of an accident that has changed our minds. Don't forget that baby seats in particular, are rear facing so it's almost impossible to easily see if there's anyone in the back.

I agree with Stewart. I don't care for them either.

The emergency services will check all seats for all occupants - no matter how small or which way they might be facing - as a matter of course.

There's no way they wouldn't bother to check just because the rear windows are tinted.

Thumbs down from me, I'm afraid.

Not keen on the baby on board signs myself as I don't see the point of them now that all children up the the age of majority (so it seems) have to be anchored into a very expensive seat. What I have got attached by an old fashioned safety pin to the fabric of each seat out of reach of the occupant of said seat and sealed in a clear plastic sandwich bag is a card with the name and date of birth of the child, name and phone No of their GP and emergency contact phone number of the parents for the children I carry in the car just in case of an accident in which I am rendered unconscious (or worse)

Having attended numerous collisions I can assure you that we spend a long time checking for possible occupants as part of the initial attendance.
The biggest problem is when the vehicle has 'exploded' and the contents are scattered off of the road, you would be surprised ( and horrified) about how far a body can travel after that point of impact. Sticker or not we never really know how many were in the vehicle and just hope we have found everyone.
