Black Tar spots

I wonder if members can give any guidance on how to remove black tar spots from the front of their vans?
Our van sustained quite an attack of these when travelling over a road being tarmaced in Portugal in the summer . The trouble is that it was very hot at the time and the marks seem very content to remain just where they are , despite my best efforts .

White spirit on a soft rag. You'll need to re-polish or re-wax afterwards.

Robert,
as Pepe says and I cannot emphasis enough the waxing/polish part. At the start of the season our previous smooth finish vans got a good polish, especially the roof and front. Our present dimpled van was treated to bobby dazzler. The result is paintwork stays good and cleaning is so much easier. 2000 miles worth of flies through France came off with a usual was and a spray of window cleaner. Only a spot of white spirit was needed for those tar bits you mention. If storing outside I would also advise an end of season polish.

Right, well that is most helpful. The finish on our van is just silver not dimpled but I guess that does not change your advice . When you say polish /wax can you be a bit more specific? Our van is only two years old and looks pretty much as it left the factory but its had no polish just a good clean every now and again. Best Wishes

I've always used whatever went on the car, usually Turtle Wax, but most recently Autoglym. The latter is expensive but wonderful stuff.

Like Colin I also use Autoglym products on my smooth silver panelled Troll GT.

I use their black tar remover to get spots off, then use their Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner and then re-polish with their Super Resin polish. Once a year I polish and then use their Extra Gloss Protection polish that gives an extra film on top of the polish.

This gives it a magic shine. It is not cheap but I got some at a good price when I changed my car. MikeT
