After over six years of towing a 7.2m 1500kg Bailey around Europe (>32,000 miles & approx 1,000 nights), last May we decided life would be easier with something smaller and more nimble. Not one for doing things by half, we opted for a new Touring Troll 540GT and took delivery in early August. We love the overall concept, the ease of towing and the creature comforts in such a relatively small package. A pity about the bed-base falling apart in the first week and the incorrect wiring that caused a flat battery in the car on a long ferry crossing though! Looking forward very much to March when we will hitch-up and shake off the winter cobwebs :)

Good to have your company and I'm sure that you will find many like-minded people here.
Quite a few people seem to have had teething problems with new vans recently but I'm sure that now they have been sorted you will have many years of happy touring with your Troll.

Welcome Keith.
We jumped the other way after having run two 540 (Poppy & Esmerelda) over 5 years. We would've gone for a new 540 last year, now they've finally got a decent washroom sorted, but it would've needed an additional £10,000 spending, which Mrs SDA wasn't prepared to sanction.
Instead we found Amber.
She's one inch longer than a Troll and 2.5 inches wider. As is usual in UK vans the lounge is up the front but otherwise think 540 when you step inside and it's an almost identical layout. To the right of the door is a single dinette across the rear of the van (with a fold down bunk). To the left of the door is the kitchen and opposite the washroom and wardrobe with heater underneath.
In fact it's a layout that Hymer has never actually made in the Eriba range but I think they should.
Basically the lounge is the size of a 530's, so smaller than the 540. Instead of using the freed up space to make a bigger dinette at the opposite end, as in the 530, Lunar have added the space to make a washroom with a proper separate shower cubicle and a much bigger kitchen. Indeed the kitchen has an oven and grill with a three burner hob plus a mains hotplate and a 110 litre fridge (instead of the Eribas 70 litre) and there's a microwave fitted up above as well as feet of clear, usable worktop. Standard gas and electric water and space heating, no headbashing on doorframe or interior roof . What's not to like.
It's a shame it's not built as well as an Eriba but at £8,000 less brand new the decision was made for us.
