Thanks guys, really enjoyed it, booked another night between Christmas and New Year at Bolton Abbey Caravan Site. Roll on !

Builder starting remedial works to the side of the house this coming Monday so hoping to only need storage for the Eriba for another few weeks then will have her tucked down the side of the house when not in use.

We collect our 420 ( a very young 2005!) from Automotive leisure in the middle of December and we can share your excitement! Happy Eribaring!

Hi Sappro

"Builder starting remedial works to the side of the house this coming Monday so hoping to only need storage for the Eriba for another few weeks then will have her tucked down the side of the house when not in use."

We had to put our Eriba in store in York for two months whilst we had the front garden changed to fit the Eriba. You would not believe it but we welled up as our Eriba was placed alongside all these big white boxes and the security gate slammed shut - it looked so small and lost.

My wife said it reminded her of setting off and leaving the kids at their new halls of residence at University!!!!!!!!!!

We were so excited when we went to collect it and if anyone heard the daft things we were saying to it as we set it up on site for a few days, we might have been locked up! As we drove it onto the drive back in Clitheroe, I'm sure Kath muttered welcome home!!

The effect that being an Eriba owner can have on you. Enjoy Bolton Abbey it has a reputation as a really nice site.MikeT

Thanks Soulbluesman,

I know what you mean about leaving it - felt like deserting the poor thing with its wheel clamp on as well !

Going to pay it a visit tomorrow as got a hitch cover arriving and want to empty the water pump ahead of the cold weather arriving - remember to drain the pipes and left the taps open but didn't lift the pump to empty which the instruction manual suggests !!! OMG

Are there any nice sites you would recommend ? Sounds like you are not a million miles away from us in Wetherby

We know what you mean Mike but it's not quite the same unless of course, you changed the house door locks before the Eriba came home.

Hi Spapro

We are just beginners really and our travels have been curtailed this summer by me having a new hip, so we've not been to loads of sites.

We have used the van for some city stays, where we park the van up and use public transport to get into the city. The C & M Club site in Edinburgh was good for this. The site is great but there is a area near it that is a bit dodgy and was lively on the late bus!

We also managed to book on the C & C Club site at Crystal Palace in London which is an oasis of green in the city. The "village" of Crystal Palace itself was interesting and full of life.

We also use the York Caravan Park on the Scarborough side to get the bus into the city but this is right in your back yard!

Further afield when we picked our Eriba up from Poole we stayed at a nice C & C Club site at Moreton, near Dorchester. This was next to a railway station so you could catch the train for a day in Weymouth one way or Poole/Swanage the other

I guess in depends what you want in a site. We always want EHU and a clean shower block, (and not too many teenagers) Enjoy your travels. MikeT

Hi Randa

Both our two have long left uni now and live in Manchester, so it is all a distant memory now. However they both cast longing glances at the Troll when it arrived at home..

They were both told that Blackburn Rovers had more chance of returning to the Premiership than they had of ever borrowing our van. Our son immediately "baggsed it" for when my senility finally disables me from towing!! As a down payment he took our Airbeam tent instead. The joys of parenting. MikeT

Wow Mike,

You've done a few miles to say you've been curtailed !

We will be doing a good number of short 2-3 night weekend breaks in 2018 so will be starting with the yorkshire dales, the coast out at Robins Hood Bay, Whitby, Filey etc and maybe a bit longer in the Peak district over the summer which is an area we haven't really explored before.

Who knows how far we will go as our Eriba adventures develop !

Can highly recommend Constable Burton Hall Caravan Park just outside of Leyburn. Very friendly Wardens in Tony & Barbara, plenty of space and within a hop and a jump of all the interesting places in the Dales. https://cbcaravanpark.co.uk/

And to boot, Leyburn hold a 1940's weekend every year which is bags of fun. This year it will be held over the weekend of 21st/22nd July. http://www.leyburn1940sweekend.org/

Thanks Deeps,

My wife has already picked out Constable Burton as a site on our 'must try' list - good to here you think its good, and thanks for the heads up the 1940's festival !

Chatting to a woman at the chemical toilet emptying sink (as you do) on Saturday she mentioned that Craken House Farm Site just outside Leyburn was one of their favourites - might be worth you looking up ?

Cheers,
Dave

I trust your not forgetting that the Dales are James Herriot (aka Alf White) country - think 'All Creatures Great & Small). The waterfall scene in the film 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves' was filmed at Hardraw where they also happen to hold the annual Brass Band Festival in September. http://www.yhbba.org.uk/hardraw1.html

The village of Askrigg was made famous as the setting for Darrowby and the house/vets practice used in the series - proper name Skeldale Guest House. Across the road is the Kings Head Pub (known as the Drovers Arms) which is excellent for a Meat & Potatoe Pie if you're feeling hungry. The real surgery is of course located in Thirsk and is now a museum - http://www.worldofjamesherriot.com/

Also held in September is the Muker Show http://www.mukershow.co.uk/ - both my wife and I were fascinated with this show; something you can only find in the Dales I suppose. Most fascinating of all is the race (adults and kids) up and down the hills (Fells) with last years winner returning an unbelievable time of 11 minutes something. By comparison it would probably have taken me the best part of a week LOL.

There are a few nice country walks around the village of Carperby where a tasty meal and beer can be had at the Wheatsheaf Pub. This also happened to be where the Herriots Honeymooned.

If you intend visiting York then the National Railway Museum is certainly worth a visit http://www.nrm.org.uk/ and if you're lucky the Flying Scotsman might have found her way back there.

Malham Cove is well worth the visit as is a walk across Middleham Moor where most morning you'll see famous race horses being put through their paces.

Fancy an ice-cream? Brymoor is a 10 minute car ride from Constable Hall where what has to be the best ice-cream in the UK is produced. http://www.brymordairy.co.uk/

The Dales offer something for everyone and I feel sure that you'll thoroughly enjoy the time there whatever you end up doing. I'll leave you with a couple of pictures one of which is the bridge that the vets used to drive their car over in the earlier series of 'All Creatures......' and also the water splash where I had a great time driving our car through several times whilst the wife filmed it. Later we replaced the Herriot's car with mine in a video that I produced.
