Poles used to make up the bed

I've seen a post about the bed poles bending but can't seem to find it, we have slept in our bed a total of 13 nights over 5 weekends away from getting the Troll new in August and the poles have bent quite a lot as the van is still under warranty we should be able to get them changed, is this a common fault on new Eribas, if we get new poles would they be any better?

Hi Harry
We got our Troll 540 in August 2016 and we have done 8 stays for about 40 nights and ours seem fine so far. MikeT

We had a problem with poles bending in our 530. AL changed them under warranty and told us to fit a dowel inside each. But they bent again! AL replaced them again and, if I remember rightly, this time they fitted the dowels. However, we decided not to risk it again. We got some steel poles and ordered some dowels the exact size to fit from e-bay. I asked the seller to cut one long one in half to make postage easier. On the next visit AL supplied us with two new black plastic end caps and Hey Presto! no more bendy poles - although the new ones are a bit heavy. Shouldn't happen though so not very impressed. What type Troll do you have Harry m? It might depend on the bed layout e.g. long-ways as in the 540 or across the van as in the 530.

The pole bending is normal. It happened back in 2003 with our first Eriba and it is still happening as owners are finding out.
I gave a length of galvanised gas barrel to a fellow owner that did the job.

Magpie we have a 503 across the van.

I've found some thicker walled ali poles on eBay so wondering if these would do a better job also add the dowels as suggested if I go down the replacement route under warranty I just get the same problem

It must be a different arrangement to our 530.

We only have one pole which is pre-bent at 90 degrees. The short upstand is permanently clipped to the side of the locker and the longer arm swings out and locates in a groove on the opposite locker. The far end of the cushions are supported on a small wooden ledge at the rear of the van.

We've never had any problems and we are no lightweights.

Yes that's a different system. Ours are two straight poles that go across. Please search for the thread 'Bed Poles'. We replaced them with stainless steel poles with an outside diameter of 25mm and a 2mm wall kindly supplied by an Eribaist who has since left the forum. The length is 1055mm which is a little longer than most on e-bay - but there are some. I don't know if the dowel inside was then necessary but we put them in any way - again found the exact size on e-bay. I e-mailed Hymer but did not get a reply. The new poles are still straight!

I've found aluminium with a wall thickness of 1/4ins which is probably 3 timer the thickness of the original polls they will cut then to the required length for £28 so I'll probably try these first but I will mention it when I take the van in for the touch lights changing next week to Lawdhams hopefully this will be last of the quality problems
