Safefill Calor Replacement

Hello,

Is anyone using the Safefill system? A local caravan dealer is now selling these as a direct replacement for the calor lite propane bottles. They can be filled at the pump and plug straight in to the existing regulator, or so I am told. The number of petrol stations where they can be filled is also increasing rapidly as the are seen as a safe solution.

Out of the 3 sizes available, I'm wondering which would fit best in the front locker. I think the medium. They all seem to have the same diameter, but just vary in height.

Thanks.

If I was just starting out caravanning I would consider one, but as I only get through one bottle a year [and that's living in the van for 6 months of the year] it would take me approx 15 years to break even, but if you cook and heat by gas and use several fills a year then I can see them as a good idea.

Thanks for your feedback, my query was more related to the technical aspects of using the system not the financial benefits.

Well I've just measured a std 6k red Calor propane bottle which I used to use in the van, and that is 495 mm high, 256 dia. Of course you would also have the advantage of starting off with about 22% more. But from the technical point of view as its a std propane connector there is no reason why not. I don't think the large would fit as I also have a 13 k Calor which is 580 high and that wouldn't fit in the gas locker.
As an aside, you might have to move the 4 rubber feet in the gas locker.

Thanks Dave, I am tempted to go for it. My Calor bottles came with the van and I don't have a hire agreement. I suspect, and think, I read somewhere when Calor come to replace the lite with their new product they will want to see the rental agreement. If the user cannot produce this then Calor will probably epect a new one to be taken out. This will put the cost up.

I guess my only other question is in regards to LPG. It this propane, the same product in the Calor Lite?

I have been using the safefill for 6 years with no problems filling in the UK , but you may have a problem in France , as they are not allowed at filling stations , LPG in the UK is all propane .

Thanks Bernard.

Are you using the medium or small cylinder and does it fit well in the Eriba locker?

I am using the original small , they only did 2 size and is a snug fit in our 2017 Triton , you wil struggle to get 2 bottles in. Have you had look at the Gaslow ones as they are smaller dia. Try before you buy.
