Gas locker locks

One of the gas locker locks on my 2004 Triton is broken, it’s been a bit iffy for a while but today the barrel came out with the key. I had a similar problem with the gas locker lock on my Burstner but I always managed to lock it but it never felt quite right. Anyway I phoned AL about a replacement and was quoted about £70 each! Sharp intake of breath!

I had a look on eBay and there are very similar looking locks for circa £10 each or a key matched pair for about £30. I’ll need to check the hole spacing etc to see if they’ll fit.

Before I order these, if they appear to be the right size, spacing etc, I just wondered if anyone else has replaced these locks with some thing other than the original Hymer type.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,
I'm afraid the obvious thing is a phone call to Jandi, or even Lowdhams. Hymer can supply a lock with barrel to match key number. They have just done this on a warranty water filler cap for me, and did so on two locker hatches on a new van I bought from Campirama in belgium in 2007.

Hi Colin,

Yes, in contact with Jandi, got to let them have chassis & key no, I don’t suppose they will be much cheaper than AL hence my looking for something more affordable, not too bothered if it’s a different key from the door etc as long as both locker keys are the same. If I do decide to go off piste I’ll post the details.

Hi Dave,

I’ll have to check the name, certainly some of these locks look similar, thanks.

Well, finally got the locks sorted. I went to a local caravan repairer and after perusal of his trade catalogue we ordered two keyed alike Vecam brand locks. These are almost identical to the locks used by Eriba, other than the colour of the inner metal barrel, silver rather than brass. I did have to change the locking bar over, the Eriba ones are bent at an angle, no problem as the the thread size is the same, took all of 5 minutes. Total cost £44.17!

Bit different to the £70 each wanted by AL!

Forgot to take a photo when fitting but here is the pack in case anyone else finds it useful.
