Door lock

I've recently acquired my Eriba and after a few uses the lock on the door has seized. I can see there are some helpful tips on the forum for taking apart and reassembling but I can't get past the first hurdle of taking any of it apart. I'm guessing that, on the inside of the lock, the round "stopper" in the middle of the handle that turns is the first part to come off but I can't work out how. Maybe I'm starting in the wrong place. It's a 1998 Duo and has a black lock. Any advice most appreciated.

Have you tried gently pressing the door in against the rubber trim
then gently rock the key in the lock. sometimes pulling the key out
a fraction and repeat. Failing that ..... pm sent

I have tried rocking the key but so far no luck, and thanks for the pm. I should have said that the lock is seized open so I can open the door, it just doesn't want to lock again. If I'm looking in the right place I'll continue trying the remove the centre piece. Thanks again.

Hi Jane and welcome to Eribafolk. I guess you've seen Amanda Pop540's thread on dismantling the lock. How to: dismantle and re-assemble door lock and I'm afraid I can't add anything to that.
Pop540 is normally a night bird but If you where to send her a PM (which will show up on her Email) then she might visit the forum earlier. I'm sure she'd be able to give you any more advice you need.
In our case, we had a sticky door lock last year and decided to purchase a new one from Jandi http://www.eribacaravans.co.uk/ If my memory serves, it cost us less that £50 (I'll check it out). If you go down that road however, you'll need to provide them with the various numbers off your VIN plate and also the key number.

In fact the new door lock assembly from Jandi cost us £52.96 including P & P.
That was for everything, inside and out, including a new barrel but didn't include a key as the barrel was supplied to fit our existing keys.

Hi, thanks for your advice. I did see the thread on the lock but it's the very first stage I'm struggling with, removing the cap to expose the screws (which is what I think I need to do). It doesn't want to come off easily and I don't want to apply too much force and damage something. I'll keep trying though!

I've not actually removed the lock on my door, but looking at it, I think you need to remove the 4 blanking plugs on the INSIDE to gain access to screws, They are black, like the door lock, and are FLUSH with the black plastic cover on the inside. They may be difficult to see, and look like small circular 'mould lines' in each corner. If this is like yours they should be eased out with a small pointed tool to reveal the 4 screws :)

Hope this is right for your lock and that it helps :) As I said I've not done this myself, just my view on how I'd tackle mine if needed !

Pop540 is normally a night bird,
hehehe no red light in sight, just incase someone thought the wrong thing..
rather funny Randa

right am on the case will be back shortly
well give at least 30minutes
I have to find the key hehehe
to get the lock off just had a look to give best advice
there are 4 screws on lock on inside of door removing these, ensures can get into lock to free it off
the round handle in middle is held in place by a circlip you really have to undo the 4 screws to get to this, but don't loose the ball bearing!!!
if removing key barrel need the key in place because on some locks the parts get out of position, I did not go this far.. perhaps you may be able to free it off with wd40, in situ
hope this is the advise that you need

Can I be a 'pain' and advise against the use of 'WD40' ? ? ! ! I believe that it should not be used on locks etc that have parts made of forms of 'plastic'. Being a form of Diesel Oil it can have a detrimental effect on plastics, causing them to swell , so in locks etc can cause parts to jam :( I prefer to use silicone oil/grease or graphite based lubricants :) Hope I'm right and that it helps.

the lock barrel is some type of metal which am assuming is the seized part,
I used sewing machine oil, it was handy for some reason lol
nothing swelling at the moment am pleased to say.

thanks for warning Ribski, amazing advice in this wonderful world of connectivity,
be careful if using on cross bars for fibre glass roof, silicone is an enemy..
many thanks for posting this warning
