T V aerials

Hi all
Can anybody give any recommendations to type(s) of TV aerials that are the best to use. We had a small log periodic one mounted on a 3 metre telescopic pole when we owned a campervan which gave us good reception but it was a devil of a job to set up. Are the interior types worth using?

Thanks in anticipation.

Interior aerials are not really a consideration. I tried for a short time a traditional type exterior on a mast version, but a couple of years ago was converted to a small satelllite dish. I used a Multimo satellite and found it excellent. I use this in the UK and a lot of France. I have only just sold this as I have treated myself to a Snipe satellite that auto seeks. I usually take the dish if the site does not have a tv aerial point on the hook up bollard..

Thanks Colin - We don't really want to go the satellite route - so I guess it's back to the log periodic and associated palaver to keep SWMBO happy........
(I hate watching telly when I'm on holiday).

I must admit that ours is used only when its wet and I cannot sit out and drink/socialise or read. When abroad for a few weeks this will happen occasionally, and in the UK is pretty much a definite occurence.

I have a satellite dish, sat finder etc. Not had much luck with tuning it, but prob because I am thick and non tecchy.
Happy to take it and sell it at Dorset meet, try before you buy - if you get it working you can pay me then.
Let me know if interested.

Just a thought, over Christmas I was having a lot of problems with my connection to the communual aerial. I had the so called engineers out and it took the about 3 weeks to agree that their was a problem before they fixed it. During this time I was using one of these Fox aerial that are being advertised quite a lot lately. This is an indoor aerial that doesnt cost too much and does not look it is worth it , but it works magically. I am going away to Scotland in a few weeks time and I intend giving it a good try there. I also have a new aerial plus all the bits that I havent used yet. I have a satellite dish that is great, But I still reckon this new bit of kit is worth it. I will writ more once I try it out eck.

Alan and Marie,
have another go.
I was given the following simple advice and it has worked to me when using the Zehnder sat finder in line that squeals annoyingly when you are getting close.
- fix tripod/mount firm and level
- tilt dish to about 28 degrees
- start with dish aiming east and very slowly rotate towards the south
- astra 2 is the first satellite you should come across
- stop when you hear the squeal and fine tune up/down left/right etc until the squeal is really loud and annoying.

I am not very tech savie but this has worked for me.

I use a log periodic aerial very successfully. The key to my faultless set up is in a free android app called Freepoint UK.
On site it gives you all the information required for the strongest signal, that is compass direction and, most importantly, horizontal or vertical polarisation of the aerial. It's never failed me yet. I've been on many sites and look around at other aerials which seem to be all over the place. The only time I have to improve the signal is to add an extra pole to get a bit more height for better reception.

IMG_5315.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)Avtex aerial with Avtex TV. Works amazingly well and last September stood up to a great deal of weather including Storm Aileen. Of course it's no use if there's no signal and is no use in Europe I guess - in which case we watch DVD's, listen to the radio or resort to the Kindles. We take enough 'stuff' without extra dishes and complicated aerials! But to quote from another recent thread, 'It's all a compromise really. Different things will be important to different people'.
