How much is a service?

I signed a 5yr service contact with Lowdhams of Nottingham when I collected my new van this time last year. It includes the Hymer water ingress test/stamp etc and I thought it looked a fair price. It also has the option for you to bail out at any time. I'm paying £260 a year.
]I have just checked the Adventure leisure site and noticed a service is £225 and the water ingress a hefty £125. To me that totals £350.

Am I missing something?

Colin, this is useful to know as I paid £360 to Lowdhams lasy year for my warranty service inc Hymer water ingress. I didn't buy it from Lowdhams though so I'll ask them if they'll do the same deal on my 542 for me?

It would be worth while asking if you could sign up for a contract. I know of one member who bought from AL and I think managed to do so at first service when he needed to go to Lowdhams as AL could not fit him in when he needed.
It is a strange method for the service contract. I made a first payment of £24.54 and then make 52 payments of £24.48. So 5yrs of service paid for over 53 months. I do not know why. I signed up for my service contract at time of collection as it looked like I was getting the water ingress at no cost.
I believe the Sheffield branch contract costs slightly less.

The other Lowdham's branch is 'Uddersfield Colin, not Sheffield. A bit further north in West, rather than South Yarkshire.

The last two annual services on my white wobbly have cost £160 each using an Approved Workshop mobile guy. That fulfilled the Bailey Warranty conditions and the guy earned his crust in really freezing weather.

Hi, I've just set up a service plan with Lowdhams, Notts, thank you Colin. I had my 542 serviced by Lowdhams last year and was shocked @ the £315 cost, so this saving is well appreciated.

Good post.

For those of us with older vans or no contract what sort of price should we be paying for an annual service from a non specialist (bit to far to travel to the various Eriba dealerships).

Do you mean a full service? Like everything?

It probably won't help that much but the last chassis-only service we had was about fifty-odd quid. I can cope with everything else, but I opted for the running gear only job partly because we're a bit pushed for a flat, level space at home, partly because I didn't have a beefy enough torque wrench to do the one-shot axle nuts and partly because I wanted to make sure that the brakes were adjusted and balanced properly.

Have you tried ringing up any of the accredited mobile blokes for a quote? There's a whole slew of links at the bottom of the links section.

Chris,
in 2015 I paid about £120 for a chassis/brakes/running gear etc service. Basically all the bits underneath.
I expect you will pay north of £200 for this and a habitation service.

Thanks Pepe, I didn’t realise you could have a chassis only service, like you I reckon I could deal with the other stuff. I was quoted £220 for a full service, sans parts, by caravan “garage” who is more used to WWBs so I’ll follow the links as you suggest.

When I had the Trolls I had them serviced by an AWS mobile guy and he charged £130/£140 over 20010 to 2013.

I had the Bailey serviced by an AWS guy last November and he charged £160. Despite them looking so different, to an AWS guy virtually everything on an Eriba is the same as a WWB.

I had local mobile engineer complete a full service on my Troll last year and it included replacing the brake pads (which I already had) He was working on van for about 6 hours (including lunch) and it cost £147. Not bad methinks

I had my Triton 430 serviced at AL last week with an external power socket also fitted. The total (incl VAT) was £427. They have done a very good job fitting the external socket but I have to take their word for what they carried out service wise. The invoice just says "Full service". When using other service providers I have received a comprehensive list of all checks carried with boxes duly ticked and comments on tyre and brake pad wear as well as other observations/advice.

I have no reason to doubt the quality of AL's service but I do think they should be providing more than a simple invoice. A friend who also had his 540 serviced last week received the same as me. The servicing manager was off last week but I will send an email this week and see what their response is.

like Colin I have a service plan with Lowdhams Huddersfield, the plan fixes the price for the predetermined time span with an extra discount for taking out the long term plan.

My payments are £19.99 a month until 2021. £238.95p a year.

Plus I can bail out at any time and recoup any outstanding monies.

When I go on holiday I like to pop my top!
