Dealer Specials?

Over the years we've come across a few "Dealer specials" like this "Cabane" which is a mystery to everyone including the authorities on the French Forum

and German Eriba owner Paul Ernest has posted many pics of his Blue trimmed Eriba which I thought was a DIY job.

However, in a photo published today it does appear to have a name, "Lavande" :- Lavande 01.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Must be a another Dealer Special whereas the red version, The Chili was I think, a factory option.

Yes, the Chilli featured in the appropriate year's annual Eriba brochure. I've never known whether there was a particular reason for Hymer France producing it, or whether it was just because they could.

I always thought that the 'i' used in car naming stood for 'injection, as in fuel injection. So just what do you inject in a Troll 530?

Dealer Specials are far more common in the white wobbly trade than in Eribas and they are made for reasons that folk often don't realise.

One is to help reinforce a dealers brand identity and another is to create a product that looks slightly unique so that the dealership can distance themselves from any discounting That's happening on the normally branded van.

In addition the dealer will negotiate a lower buying in price with the manufacturer based on committing to buy a fair volume of specials. The extra costs to a manufacturer are marginal, sticking different vinyl decals on and maybe fitting a few bits from the parts bin of a slightly more upmarket range.

Some dealers have their special specs ramped up significantly from the standard model and then sell at significantly higher prices, though still less than it would cost an individual to fit all the extras after production.

John Lewis successfully use a similar system to sell branded product models that are unique to them, meaning that you can't claim against their never knowingly understood promise because nobody else sells the same model.

As far as John Lewis employee, the lovely Mrs eribaMotters is aware, the only time JL buy in unique code items is at sales times. The day to day codes on branded products should be the same as found in other stores.

There are lots of branded white good that JL sell that have a model number that's slightly different to those offered by other retailers, often with 'JL' as the last to elements in the code.

There are also lots of furnishing items that nobody else sells, so they can't be price compared.

I don't want to interfere or anything - and for all I know you might enjoy the challenge of copying and pasting and faffing around with dozens of quotation marks - but there is a much easier way of quoting what someone else has written.

And it's certainly far easier than the horribly cumbersome method they use on the Other Place.

Once you've clicked 'Reply' below the post to which you are replying, scroll down a bit to where it says 'Your reply to'. In the top right hand corner of that box it says 'Quote'.

If you press that, the whole of the post you're answering appears in the 'create post' box that you're typing in above. You can then edit the quoted section if you want to remove sections which are not relevant to what you're typing.

As long as you keep the HTML codes for the quote intact (the bit in square brackets at the beginning, including the brackets, and the bit at the end where it says /quote, keeping those brackets too) it'll be highlighted in purple when your response appears after pressing 'Submit'.

Like it is when everybody else does it...

It takes far, far longer to explain than it does to do, but it's just that I feel so sorry for you making such heavy weather of it that I had to say something...

The possibilities are endless, but some could be a little rude!

Someone's trying a little BMW related play on words there. Our 430 had a red 'i' stuck on after the GT decal (GTi 430), but that was soon removed. It's a 2014 Eriba, not a 1993 Golf GTi.
