Trying before we buy???
Hi all
We are thinking of buying an Eriba and we were wondering if there's anywhere that hires Eribas please?? Just so we know for sure it's for us. Thank you

It might be worth asking AL and Adventure Leisure if they know of someone, on the basis that they might have sold vans to them.

Thanks. Yes I'd heard of love2caravan but they're no longer active. Can't find anywhere that hires them. Probably to do with the fact that they're so good people just buy one!!!! It's a big investment that's all.

An investment you won't regret however. As an example, our 19 year old Troll is probably worth a bit more now than when we purchased it eight years ago.
If you open a conversation spelling out what you think you require then there will be many members who can advise you on what they believe is the van for you.

Thank you all. The Eriba we are looking for would be the Troll 540. So if anyone on here is selling one we might be interested.
Thank you

Our Triton is 21 this year. We bought her at the end of 2015 for 7000 Euros. She's been ace. Sure, new they're very expensive but there are always lots about second hand.

The 540 is probably the 1st or 2nd choice along with the 420. Long beds, 2 seater front dinette etc. What sort of age are you considering? A lot of newcomers to Eribas are looking at new ones but there is still a lot of mileage left in the middle aged ones and the classic ones.
I think it was Mr Motters who argued on here that to go with a good second hand one was the way to go until you are absolutely certain that it's the model for you.

Roger has the right advise, we bought a second hand Puck a few years ago and then decided we needed a toilet, we sold the puck for a profit and then bought a new Familia 320...

Hi Wildy and welcome to the site.
I would suggest that if you can't hire one that you book an appointment with AL in Poole as they have such a wide range of vans. We weren't sure if we even wanted a caravan at all but booked an afternoon session with AL and Cameron showed us round all sorts of models new and second hand.
We didn't feel under any pressure to buy and Cameron was great. We eventually ordered a brand new one from them about six months later. We decided that we wanted a Troll 540GT and they were like hens teeth second hand. It was a lot of money to lay out but as they keep their prices so well our thought was that if we didn't like it we could sell it and barely lose any money.
However we absolutely love it and I could only see us selling it when we both get too infirm to tow it.!!!!!!!!
Good luck with your search. MikeT

All great advice thanks. We would have to go second hand and we're looking at 540 models from 1999 upwards. It's just finding one is apparently very hard as they're a sort after model. The long bed is a must for us.

I would strongly advise you to try before you buy! Had we done the same we would most definitely not have bought ours! Overhyped and all style over substance has been our first week experience in it. Build quality very poor compared with the Coachman we exchanged it for! But that is just our opinion and obviously an unpopular one on this forum

Ok, so why, just because it’s an Eriba shouldn’t my it come as standard in the U.K. with a hot water facility? A electric heater facility? more sockets, a TV/aerial socket? Draining board? Chopping board/sink cover? 3rd has hob ring? Outside accessible under sofa locker door? Carpets? I has to pay extra for all these items by getting the GT pack and then still adding some of these items! Plus the Eriba comes with no alarm, no tracker, no Alko wheel lock receiver in the chassis? A TV? An awning? None of these items make any difference to the size restrictions of the van? And yet these were all standard items in other new caravans for sale at considerably less money! And they were all standard in my previous caravan.
Of course I accept there isn’t room for a full double oven and grill, for the microwave, that the fridge is small etc. But there is lots of ‘standard’ equipment not provided in the Eriba unless you’re paying north of £26k to have them added as extras! It’s not right
