peshtemal towels

Do any forum members have experience of using peshtemal towels instead of normal cotton towels ? They apparently are very absorbent and dry quickly.
We tried microfiber towels some years back but didn't like the drying action required i.e. patting dry, I prefer a good rub!

I'm showing my ignorance, although I have heard of Turkish towels I didn't know the name peshtemal. Do they dry significantly faster than ordinary towels and are they much lighter do you know? Like you I don't like the patting action required by microfibre towels.
Interested to see what others think/know.

Foutas! We use them in the van and for the beach. They fold up small, very light, they dry quickly and are nice to use. Be careful to get quality ones. The cheaper ones are not very absorbent but good ones are lovely. I get mine here

Thanks for the link Islay. I see that some are a bamboo/cotton mix and some are pure cotton. Which would you recommend?

I didn't even know Turkish towels were a 'thing'.

We bought a pack of microfibre dog towels at Crufts in 2008 and were very disappointed. We only use them now for covering the bathroom floor when we bath a beardie and in our eyes they don't match up with what was claimed for them.

I had to look up the name too! They are also called Hamman towels. I tried some as they seemed a good idea for the swimming baths here - they are OK but seem to hold onto the wet and take a long time to dry. We've used microfibre 'sport' (from Gelert) towels for the 'van for years as they really do fold up small a and dry very quickly. Yes, they have a smoothish surface and need a different technique for use - rather more of a 'blotting' action but then work very well. So we prefer them. Not as nice as big, white, fluffy bath towels I know but I can't fit them in the Eriba! NB I bought some microfibre dog towels but they have a loopy pile and are not much use. (They were for the dogs - not us!)

Islay thanks for the link. Have read about the quality of some suppliers not being very good. Have seen some on Amazon that get 5 star review but are more expensive than Desfoutas even with postage to UK.
Did you buy the 100% cotton or the Cotton/bamboo ?

I prefer the cotton. I think the bamboo is a bit too soft and slippery! Then, i love a nice, raspy towel.
Decathlon do some very good microfiber towels now. About 10E for a giant bath sheet size.

Towels? Towels?

Sheesh.

We'll be discussing espadrilles and loafers next. What has this place come to?

Mike. Get off here and get on to Mumsnet. What are you like? What's wrong with a quick scrub of the nethers with yesterday's greasy pan scourer and a sprint round the campsite to dry off, for heaven's sake?

You're supposed to be a manly outdoors man, more interested in huntin' and fishin' and whittlin' and starting fires with a flint.

This thread is for pansies ..

Towels indeed.

Now espadrilles, they very definitely are a 'thing'.

I'm with you Pepe. Today it's towels, last week it was cushions, and I seem to remember net curtains a short while ago. Maybe we should have a section for us proper men.

What a good idea. Somewhere you chaps could post about your grommits, extra sockets, one shot nuts and all the other things that just pass completely over my head. Although to be honest I'm not bothered about cushions or curtains, towels on the other hand are useful.

Lost your reading spectacles again Mr Pong ?? This thread is about personal hygiene apparatus that can also double up for cleaning the bird poo off your pride and joy, nothing to do with gardening !

There's something about this sentence that makes me uneasy.

I haven't quite worked out what it is just yet, but there's definitely something askew.
