Freeze Blocks

Last September we were in France via Plymouth/Roskoff for two weeks. We usually catch the 08:00 ferry so we tend to drive to the port the previous evening and camp out in the departure lanes until we get the wake up knock at 06:00.
The fridge we operate on gas upon arrival at port. It then means it will be without power for approx. 9.5 hours until we reach Roskoff. To help keep it cold we use ice blocks that we have in past had refrozen at campsites to use in the cold box beer chiller.
When we reached our destination near La Rochelle we inquired if we could get the blocks refrozen. We were surprised to hear that they no longer offer this service and that it is now general throughout France.
We did notice however that a number of people were getting bottles of water frozen by the staff which we presume gets around the problem of ice blocks.

Did this apply to the freeze blocks of all nations or was it blocks friz d'Anglais seulement and France's subtle revenge for Brexit?

Mike,
if you parked up next to me you would be OK for a re-freeze. Aswell as the table top fridge we take a table top freezer. This drops from about minus 20 to minus 8 when not powered up for 15/18 hours.

As long as the learned gentleman from the south west leaves my room temperature red wine and cool, not cold, Old Speckled Hen, then I am happy for him to freeze his blocks. All I ask is nice pasty in return, preferably one from the bakery in Hayle opposite the car park under the viaduct.
