The picture clarifies your problem, please ignore my posts #27 and #29

Can someone with a 2012 Troll 550 jump in and do a comparison with the picture in #30.

I would get Jandi to send the photo off to Hymer. Something is obviously wrong, and I suspect it is most likely to be the location of the catch plate. This is the only part of the equation to be open to human error. The catches are mass produced and made to tolerances. the roof gasket could not realistically squash down by 4mm, so it is likely down to a the fitter being a few mm out. If this is the case it is a fault from manufacture that they should address and not charge you for a new part.

There's not a lot of room for anyone to drop the receiver any further, certainly not enough to take up what appears to be the slack. It really needs comparing with others. It doesn't need to be the same model as the roof mechanisms etc are the same all round. Any Troll post 2010 will do.

There is lots of room for the receiver to be lowered. I could do it but it only needs moving by about 5mm which would be too close to the existing holes.
The rear receiver plates are much lower.

You could drop it 10mm and not wind the black nut up so much.

Could it be that that part of the handle is thicker than the one it replaced ?

I was thinking that the limit for attaching the receiver was the line of trim just below it, but as the rear one appears screwed through that trim, it might be OK to go lower. I'd be inclined to ask an experienced dealership just in case the front roof internals won't support such screws.

@ chezmart - I'm going to ask a really stupid question here - but does your Troll look like the one with the lower awning rail or the higher one? What I'm getting at is whether there is some issue over the actual year of the van. I've got a vague memory of reading stuff on this forum about bendy roofs or something to do with roof construction around 2012 - 2013 is - cannot be sure. Maybe you've got a hybrid of some sort? Your roof fixing looks identical to my 2017 Triton BTW.

The roof profile changed in 2010.

The older stile had a lower awning rail and a more 'bulbous' edged roof. The newer vans have the higher rail and door frame and a flatter roof profile. The poptop are different too.

The rear catches have a white plastic circle underneath them, presumably it is this that’s removed for the front catches for the threaded rod to fit through so the white plastic bit is actually the same length for both back and front fixings. The receiver plates are also in exactly the same place as shown in your photos. The difference is that my front catches are tight as shown above

How strange - they look the same. Could it be that the roof is further forward horizontally and the gap is actually not a vertical gap but the catches leaning forward at an angle

Thanks all.

Rambling Robin - it's the newer streamlined roof style. I do remember there was an issue with roofs deforming but not sure which years that affected. Could be worth looking into.

gattim - Thanks for taking the pictures. That shows the receivers are in the correct place.
