Bike racks

Can anyone give me some advice on bike racks? We have a 1989 Troll, dated now due to everyone's help on here (thank you again) and a picture posted in the picture gallery! We intend on taking two bikes with us to France in the summer and don't know if you need specific racks for specific caravans.

Hi Mags.
Coincidentally, Hob has just created a thread Rear cycle rack removal and that type of bike rack is typical for Eribas.

However, we are in the same predicament as you but have looked at other ways of going about it :-Carrying pushbikes in your Eriba

Although we've not tried it yet, we are going to have a bash at fitting the bikes in our Troll this weekend.

Where in France are you going to and when?

Randa

We have been going to the same campsite for a few years now because we like it so much. Camping les Ormes, in Villereal, near Bergerac, South West France. We go in the first two weeks of August. My son is 7 so have to go in school holidays. First time in our Eriba this year! In fact I need to research campsites for our overnight stop en route. Somewhere in the Loire valley, near Le Mans, if anyone can reccomend one? I have just read your post regarding putting them inside the caravan. We are also not sure if they will go through the door!! Shall try it out also this weekend!

We have carried 2 adult mountain bikes inside our Troll a few times. It is a little wider than Rogers and it is a tight squeeze to get them round and between the kitchen and bathroom so it may not be possible in an older van.
However if you can get them in they can easily be held between the bench/beds with some suitable packing.
We will be taking them to France in this way in June.

Just tried our two full size bikes in our Troll 530 ( 2000mm wide) and they fit. A bit of a squeeze around the corner of the cooker/sink unit and very careful not to scratch the woodwork.
We found it best with one person standing just inside the door, towards the front of the van to take over from a second person lifting the bikes through the door.
They fit with front wheels on but it was far easier with front wheels off.

We may rearrange the car however and carry the awning on the floor of the van and carry the bikes in the car.

(ps. We've answered Mags' campsite request on a new thread )

Well done you two!
That's just how we did it.

Can you point me to a picture of an Eriba with the front mounted two ball style bike carrier anywhere please?
I'm sure I have seen one but having been through the gallery I cannot find it.

The best way that we have found is is a Witter carrier that sandwiches between the towball and towbar. Noseweight isn't a problem as we run a Jeep,

Do you know if the Witter carrier can be attached to a removable towball?

I don't think they do mate,....Appear to be only for the"flange-mounting",..tow ball,...the one with the two big nuts and bolts.
