When I was looking at the new eribas at the nec on airstream stand. The also had an lots of grey funky stuff on the mid belt section of trim which at the time I tought was a bit of sloppy work but then understood it is better to have lots for the sealant and limit water ingress.

its the grey stuff I have oozing out from below my mid rail, it's only a relativley small area, and I have cleaned most of it, but I just need to get rid of a small amount of sticky residue

Thanks Deeps but the black mastic is leaking from the bottom edge of the gutter so is visible and can look rather ragged. As I'm a tidy minded sort of person this offends my eye hence the clean up but I take you point about it doing good so maybe pushing it back up to the gutter line using the credit card trick and then just cleaning up with WD40 or white spirit might do the trick.

Unless you stand on a set of step ladders you don't get to see it anyway so just ignore it - it's not as though it's doing any harm and in fact, it's doing a lot of good.
While I take the point absolutely about the sealant above - and usually in - the gutter profile, you do see it if it has squidged down the walls from underneath. I don't really understand what good that's doing. It's excess sealant, and by definition excess is more than is necessary.

It just looks unsightly.

I assumed that's what Tony was talking about.
