I just went to Halfords and noted they had a 6amp solar battery charger for about £32, I wondered if anyone else had tried one of these it just had crocodile clips which I wondered if this would be sufficient and whether it would work when the van is also connected to the mains via the onboard charger?

Me Too ! got a 2015 Triton 430 with leisure battery.

Not so bothered for using a solar panel whilst on electric hookup (can't see the point in that) but off to Carfest North in the Summer for 3 days without electric hookup so this could be interesting if as easy as connecting to the battery using crocodile clips - as long as won't damage the charging circuit etc in the van.

6 amp presumably is 72W at 12V? Quoting the current of a solar panel is unusual because the voltage varies with the amount of sunlight and thus the current output (amps) also varies. I'll have a quick check of Halfords website.

OK. Sadly it is a 6W charger. I bought one of these to maintain my leisure battery during storage and it was pretty useless. I also had an old folding 13W panel which was just about adequate.

I currently use a folding 60W panel which will keep my 110AH battery going off grid for a week. I have LED lighting but that saving is offset by 2 to 3 hours TV a day running a 20W TV via a 300W invertor. Still enough juice left at the end of the week to use the motor mover to couple up.
