Eriba Puck wheel nut torque settings?

Some torque advice please!

I have just purchased a pair of Mefro 10" steel wheels that are shod with 145R10 tyres from a trailer supplier.

I am trying to find out the correct torque settings for the radius seated wheel nuts.

I think the studs are M14 diameter.

My google search is coming up with torque settings between 88 nm to 100 nm.

That seems quiet high to my inexperienced mind but can anyone give me a definitive answer.

The Puck is an early smooth skin model and is unbraked and weighs 400 kgs. Less than a small loaded trailer that people carry their camping kit in.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

As far as I am aware all Eriba's have torque settings of 100 Nm (74 ft/lbs) for steel wheels and 120 Nm (89 ft/lbs) for alloy wheels. Be warned though as steel wheels use bolts with a convex profile under the head whilst alloy wheels use bolts with a conical profile under the head. These alloy wheel bolts are also slightly longer to allow for the thicker wheel section.

Take not of that man Jules.
John actually knows his stuff whilst we at times think we might do.

Thanks for the replies.

John - are those figures (of 88Nm steel wheels and 115Nm alloy wheels) a 'standard' for all size wheels or in particular for small diameter wheels?

Yes, Jules, those torques apply to all common caravan wheel sizes.

For steel wheels - 8.8 grade, M12 x 1.5 pitch bolt with 19mm a/f hex head (8.8 grade torque = 88 Nm).

Alloy wheels require 10.9 grade, M12 x 1.5 pitch - with 19mm a/f hex head (10.9 grade torque = 115 Nm).

Bolts for alloy wheels require a conical seat, and bolts for steels require a spherical seat.
