The extension tubes for the chimney make a big difference, we tried only one at first but found that on a windy day the wind buffeted against the canvas and constantly blew the gas out which made the auto pilot light kick in. We now have two extension tubes and it hasn't been a problem since. I'm too short to reach the chimney so I have one of those folding blue steps..... :-)

We don't have an extension tube on our chimney but we don't use our gas fire, preferring to go with a small oil filled radiator.
However perhaps someone can confirm that the deep "popping" sound that we sometimes hear in the van during blustery weather is the wind blowing down the chimney?

Hi,
I'm totally new to all of this. I've had my Eriba 310 for about two weeks and have spent only one night in it so far when we collected it (we plan a weekend soon). Is the chimney extension tube something I need to buy, or should I find it inside the caravan. I can't remember seeing it anywhere.

Thanks.

It's a grey tube about a foot long......looks like a bit of drain pipe threaded at both ends if you have a gas fire in the van and its missing it would be a good idea to get a replacement it fits between the flue and the cowel

this shows it NOT fitted it extends the tube to help stop the flame blowing out..................if you have one do not travel with it fitted as the wind resistance will cause damage

Hi Philip. We've never had one although it's fair to say we hardly ever use our gas heater and when we do it's only when we are awake. We use a small 700kw electric radiator instead.
The reason they are used is because without them the heater chimney top is lower than the pop top and there's always the worry that the fumes could blow back through the pop top into the van.

Thanks - It was a new van, so I should expect to find it somewehere?
I'll check under the wardrobe and behind the gas fire. There is a wooden base in the wardrobe which can be removed. Perhaps it is lurking down there.

Hi Philip. We've never had one

Extension tubes weren't supplied with our 2013 new Triton either and they also didn't appear on the pre handing over check list supplied by Hymer.

I'm bumping this thread for the benefit of new members who may not be aware that this checklist is available to download and modify to suit their personal circumstances.

If you have any questions then please ask.

Our previous van didn't have one and we were told that was because it wasn't necessary - the new one does have one (found it in a cupboard) but haven't used it yet.

I have a personally modified copy of this on a clipboard in the car during the season and never turn a wheel without reading and going through it first.

Reading back through this topic and vaguely with that in mind earlier in the year I took an image of the chimney extension in place just to illustrate the point.

Do not attempt to travel with the extension piece in place as the wind resistance may damage the installation.
