It is with huge sadness that I have to post the news of the death of Derek Snowdon, aka Hampshireman.
Many of you will have met him and many more known of him through his posts.
I’m sure there will be great tributes to him, his paintings, his humour, his hashing, his family, his love of food and drink, music and travel. We’ve only known him through the Eriba stuff but there will be a bigger void in the wider world after his passing.
RIP Derek.

That is indeed a sad shock. He was only asking me about steam trains a week or so ago. A void has opened in the world of Eribas and many other places I'm sure. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Oh what sad news, Tony.
We only met Derek and Carole the once at the very first Eribafolk meet where we pitched next to them. He was a lovely chap, full of Geordie humour, very welcoming and great company. Wendy and I took to him immediately.
I remember with fondness the many humorous exchanges we had on the forum over the years regarding his art and Una Stubbs in particular (Derek hated her elevation to painting guru on some television programme). He was also responsible for putting me back in touch with one of my old teaching colleagues (one of his hashing associates.) When we visited Ann and her husband in France a couple of years ago, it was clear that they both held Derek and Carole in very high regard.
It was miraculous how Derek recovered from the grievous injuries he suffered in that awful road traffic accident. It was a true testament to his grit and determination.
As you say, rest in peace, old mate. You will be sadly missed by a lot of Eribafolk both old and new.
Sincere condolences to Carole and the family.

Oh how sad :( the loss of a true gentleman. I loved to watch him sketch, listen to his wonderful tales and so admired his positive outlook on life. Our thoughts are with Carole and family xx

Oh dear. What sad news. Amanda and I absolutely loved his sense of humour and his very manly attitude towards hugs and kisses etc. We used to tease him something rotten and he loved the banter.
We were only thinking about him last night.
We don't know much about the extended family but Carole is also very dear to us and our thoughts are with her right now.

Really saddened to hear of the passing of Derek (Hampshireman) I only met him twice but he was full of smiles, laughter and the odd moan, which I found myself agreeing to. Derek was one of life's nice guys, he often joked about wanting me to clean his Eriba, I am sad to know he was taken to soon it happens to often to good people, the forum will be a sadder place without his input. RIP Derek.

We are so sad to hear this news. We will remember Derek fondly, he and Carol were one of the first Eribafolk members to welcome us to the Forum and help us to enjoy the experience. That was some years ago when we were new to Eribas and were grateful of all help offered! We send our sincere condolences to Carol and their family. Martin and Kathy

Oh, that really is sad to hear. I only met Derek once when we were pitched next to one another at the Dorset meet, just the other weekend. I wasn't aware that he had any health issues and he certainly seemed full of life when I chatted to him and Carol. My thoughts are very much with Carol and their family...
