Do you recognise them?

First of all, from the depths of my toolbox an aged array

They're hardly used now as I was given a brand new toolkit a year or so ago and I now tend to use the shiny yellow handled jobs instead. What do you do with old tools?

And talking of old tools here are a few more that might jog memories

20180510_182742.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

A valve lifter, last used circa 1971 when I rebuilt the engine on my 1071cc Cooper S.

A piston ring compressor, again last used in the Mini rebuild.

A non-return brake bleeding tube, probably also last used in '71

No idea what this is but it was in my toolbox

A grease gun, remember them? This one came with my first car, a 1938 4 seater Mk2 Morris 8 Tourer.

And lastly a much used, but not recently, plug spanner in disgustingly rusty state.

OMG - I've still got most of that lot - plus the grinding paste for the valves and the funny rubber sucker tool....

That's reminded me, I wonder where the valve grinding tool went, you know, the wooden dowel with a small rubber sucker on the end?

The question is, what can you do with redundant tools? Is there a recycling scheme, are they rubbish for landfill? I've a perfectly sound mains electric drill that never gets used as the rechargeable has taken over. So much stuff that Isn't any use to me and just clutters the garage.

I may have seen those carpenter's pincers in a recent repeat of Crimewatch.

I'm surprised not to see a Yankee screwdriver amongst that lot. You'ld be wise to find them as I know I got good money for mine on e-bay about a year ago when I had a pre-move declutter..

There is a charitable group in Ringwood near us who take donations of old tools and refurbish them before shipping them out to Africa. I think this is a far better way to provide assistance to Third World countries rather than simply donating cash which is all too often syphoned off by corrupt officials.

Talking of tools reminds me of the time I was inspecting a house in Newark-on-Trent and the elderly occupant told me that she was very disappointed with her new pair of 'Radio Pliers' as she couldn't figure out how to turn them on. Honest!

Another old lady once told me that she was waiting for the landlord's builder to fit an "Irish J" over the window.

Happy days.

Agree with Brian...this is the charity we have used before in Ringwood, Hampshire

https://toolaidringwood.org.uk/tools-for-refurbishment-2/

If anyone has a few pliers etc and wants to donate and is going to the Summer Meet, I can take them on your behalf as we only live in Bournemouth. Mind you no old Singer treddle machines please!!!...only small items as won't have the space.
