What a shame that such a popular and obviously needed vehicle is to get the boot,
they did the same with the 2CV as well. People want something rugged and easily
maintained by the owner/users.
I wonder what if anything they will offer as a substitute?

I know I'm about to upset a few forum members but great and would wish that the remaining ones were taken off the road as they seem to always be in front of me on winding country roads crawling along at a snails pace holding back the traffic.

There is always a downside, I do agree with you, about the crawling along.
What an amazingly versatile vehicle though, engine out in no time at all,
repaired and replaced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2bn465QJgI

The 2CV (I've had four) was axed because it was impossible to make the engine comply with EU emissions legislation.
Ironically, when the university where I taught introduced parking charges for staff in the 1990s on 'environmental' grounds, they graduated the fees charged according to engine capacity. This meant that a comparatively filthy 602cc 2CV cost substantially less to park per year than my then 1.8 Astra (which was much cleaner) while taking up the same amount of space in the car park.
I tried explaining this lunacy to the idiots administering the scheme and suggested they base the charges on CO2 emissions. Were they interested?
You guessed.

My dad had an origional VW Kombi camper conversion and my mum had a Beetle with the little window at the back with flip out of the side window pillar indicators. It also had flowers painted all over it and 'peace' and 'love' painted on the dashboard....then, it was the 60's.
Our T5 is a Kombi but we don't have to stop every 100 miles in the summer and flip the back to let the engine cool down!
Happy memories!

A recent picture of my 2CV, which I still have :) Whilst it may be said that it produces a higher % Co ( which I suspect you meant rather than Co2 ?),
maybe as volume of the stuff it produces ,2 CV White Grey 5 © VicPics copy 2.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)could be very little different than an engine 3 times it's size ? - Just an idea

Not really, UK tax bands are calculated according to either engine size or CO2 emissions, not CO.

Mr Codder is correct CO is Carbon Monoxide, CO2 is Carbon Dioxide.

We had a 73 Bay not the splitty and it served th leap from tents to Eriba with a T4 thrown in when Bluebell got too fiddly for a non mechanic like me to play around with. It got us a lot of attention and street cred for two oldies.
