Fit a piece of plastic pipe insulation over the door flyscreen edge. It's the magnetic catch that does the damage.

I find that 2 or 3 large glasses of wine works for me. Doesn't stop me banging my head but I don't feel the pain.

I suppose for the elderly among us a simple lift could be the answer. :)
