IMG_20180626_141447.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)The awning was in the Eriba when we bought her, having never tried building one it became quite a puzzle...we are first time caravaners too.
Hopefully someone will know a little more about it, any advice taken. We did manage to build / create an awning from various parts and poles, the last 2 we found were curved so we placed them as rain run offs.

Good first attempt, so well done.
You should have a short pole, about 300mm long that locates in the mount/bracket half way along the awning rail near your outside light. On top of this will go a couple of (curved ?) poles one totards the back of the van and the other towards the front. These will give some height to the awning where it meets the van so it looks similar to the long opening side. A ridge pole will run at the peak of the awning and you should have a couple more poles parallel with this out from the two (curved ?) poles you have fitted. Any odd poles left over with thumb screw clamp ends could be extra roof support poles or used on the long open side of the awning as a waist high veranda that you can unzip and drape the awning fabric over.
Keep trying, you'll get there.
