The number of people that say they "have a cold" at the moment beggars belief.
Its not a "cold" its pollen http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/health/publi...recast#calendar

there is a virus making its rounds, not a nice one either takes a while to shake

plus the yellow fields are breaking out a month early
apparently eating onions every week is supposed to help in any form.

itchy eyes need cool used tea bags although ensure wash face before opening door to visitors

I've suffered from allergic rhinitus since I was 11 years old, but thankfully it's abated somewhat in recent years and last year I hardly had any symptoms.

I've learned to control myself and not rub my eyes when they itch or else they swell up enormously. The worst bit I find is the really painful sore throat just behind the roof of my mouth, at times I could scream it's so bad.

I once found a very soothing liquor made by Twinings, a cold tea with elderflower mixture somehow helped ease the throat and make it bearable. Then they stopped making the product about eight years ago and I've found nothing that's a suitable replacement. My family do know that a supply of Smarties does also help.

Andy, honey produced as local to you as possible is very good,
as is cold chamomile tea.

Bit of a sweeping statement, I've just got over a stinker caught on a long haul flight.

In case you need a bit of help looking, it's at the back of the kitchen cupboard nearest the cooker, on the second shelf, in a tin marked 'Sense of Humour'.

If you still can't find it I'll see if I can dig out our spare one for you

Sorry for being so flippant Rod but I've been a lifelong disliker of honey, I just don't like the taste. I used to gag when me dear old mum used to force it down my throat as a kid and it ain't got any better since.

As to camomile/chamomile tea, someone must've been having a lark, 'orrible stuff. I can drink any tea white, green, black, lapsang, earl, darjeeling, Lipton's, Tesco's, RAF http://www.rareteacompany.com/shop/10/en...r-force-raf-tea (watch out for the bottom video), Assam, Morning, Afternoon and Evening Tea, various blossom and flavoured teas and even Gunpowder tea but not Chamomile I'm afraid.

The term 'gunpowder tea' relates only to its appearance. It's an ordinary China green tea whose leaves are curled so that in bulk it looks like coarse-grained cannon powder, hence the name.
