Just a reminder than as from now, on roads with no central separator, the limit is no longer 90 but 80 mms per hour. The gendarmes say that there will be no period of adjustment.

80 millimetres per hour? Those escargots will be fair slithering past us in the outside lane.

New arrivals here on site in the Loire report the 80 signs have already been put up over the 90.

This new speed limit is to try and reduce the number of road casualties however I feel there are better ways of tackling it.

I find the biggest headache when driving in France is the stupid way they insist on putting pedestrian crossings immediately on the exits of roundabouts and traffic lights and French pedestrians are like lemmings. They boldy strut straight across them without any concern for thier safety causing oncoming traffic to brake hard leaving the tail of their vehicle exposed in the middle of the junction.

Anyone else got some pet hates when driving in France?

Not overly keen on cats, especially next door's.

As soon as we've cleared and dug a bit of garden, their cats race over and crap in it.

I take some consolation from knowing that those same cats probably jump up onto their kitchen work surfaces a little while later, but get no enjoyment from seeing them trying to ambush the birds using our feeders.

Yes, we have the same problem; thinking of putting some high voltage netting between the path and flower beds whilst hoping not to fry the postman...
