Our Puck is towed by a VW Westfalia with a canvas pop-top and have used an external insulation material for a number of years. In warm weather, they can keep the inside cooler, although this aim can conflict with the abilities to unzip the canvas sides to provide airflow. The insulation also reduces inside noise and early- morning light considerably, ( useful when kids sleep in the roof) but bear in mind that the size of a VW pop-top is much larger than those on an Eriba. We have camped in our VW, with pop-top and insulation in place, in temperatures as low as -10 degrees and it is very effective indeed. An additional benefit of the insulation ( which we did not initially think about) is that the insulation protects the canvas, helps to keep the canvas dry and clean and to therefore last longer, thereby avoiding or delaying the need for cleaning or replacement. Closing the pop-top is always a good option in the coldest of evenings. We have not yet found the need to close the Eriba roof (unlike once with the VW on a very wet and windy winter night in Spain!) a and the smaller space within our caravans means that they tend not to take much too much warming up.
