Battery help required!!
Hello, having been a member on here for a while, I have found the advice and help invaluable. I now have another question and need some more advice. We have a Troll, 1989 French model. When plugged into mains electricity all appliances are working, Fridge, lights etc. When not plugged in to mains we seem unable to run off the 12v battery system. However we can when it is plugged into the car. Does this make sense? Can anyone help?
We don't have a manual for the caravan and cannot work out how to run the appliances when not in transit, or not plugged in to mains electricity. Any advice or help welcome.
Thank you for reading
Mags

it sounds like the battery is flat, if nothing works first check voltage
do you have a multimeter to turn onto v volts then put red prong on plus and black prong on minus of battery, read the result and get back to us
are the terminals tight on battery
do a wire wiggle test, then check to see if fitted an inline fuse has not blown

sometime the fault may be an isolator switch has been fitted to stop the battery from powering any of the caravan in winter..
you would have to either post a picture of battery area and wiring,
or follow the wiring
perhaps someone may spot the fault in a piccy whether it be a switch not in right position to something come undone
only the lights and the water pump work from the battery not the awning light
the fridge is gas, electric, and towing car battery while engine running

Have sorted out a multimeter! My partner Simon has one in his workshop and will bring it home tomorrow. He says he cant believe he hadn't thought of that himself!! We have not really driven anywhere since picking up the caravan so I guess a flat battery is very likely.
Thank you

I think you'll find that the fridge is only supposed to run on 12V when being towed.
At all other times it is designed to run on either 240V mains or gas.
There is a relay on the front of the BIP unit (to right of switches in picture) that governs 12V operation and this only cuts in when the van is attached to the car, the red 12V switch on the fridge is 'on' and (I think) the engine is running.

There's a copy of a 2004 Eriba instruction manual that may be of use to you here in our technical help files section.

Thank you all very much, again. This forum is great and everyone is so helpful. I was a member on another forum for a while but I'm not sure if I did something wrong as some of my posts were completely ignored. I worried that I was being a pain and asking too many questions! I hope I'm not annoying anyone here. Your help is invaluable and much appreciated. My partner Simon will be onto the battery issue tomorrow after work.
You might want to check that the van has a battery charger fitted ........someone might have just added a battery.......... if not you may need to buy one separately

Someone once told me that the only daft question is the one that you didn't ask, so keep 'em coming.

ask away, its amazing the community knowledge 'eriba folks' have
apologies for strange sense of humour earlier regarding engine
here is an option for keeping battery topped up once charged, if no access to electric
