Probably stuffed my battery

Put the van to bed a couple of weeks ago after last run out. Cleaned all the surfaces etc drained water, all the usual stuff. Forgot to plug in the EHU straight away but no problem normally..............................except in cleaning the top of the heater I had inadvertently turned on the recirculating fan.

That has drained the battery down to 1.2Vdc. Yes, the decimal point is in the right place.

It has taken my CTek charger 72 hours to get the battery up to maximum, about 14.2 Vdc and it is now resting at about 13.2 and dropping slowly.

The battery is 5 or 6 years old 110Ah class C Halfords job. (not fitted by me) Since I run almost exclusively without EHU, the battery has been through many cycles, the Class C is not best for this duty.

Looks like I'll be buying a new battery next spring, probably a Varta LFD90 as recommended by JohnE

I think if I was normally on EHU, the battery would be sufficient for the odd bit of manouvering with the mover at each end of a trip, but I can't see it lasting a whole week as it has been up till now (with solar panel)

At least you are not in France, Ray, so think yourself lucky. I had to pay out €140 last month for a Bosch 80Ah car battery when mine went tits up while touring.

Trouble is when you are travelling it's easier to take what is thrown in front of you as a quick fix so that you can get on with your holiday. I suspect Monsieur Calder had that confrontation and made the best balanced solution to his current problem.

In a way I am fortunate in discovering this potential problem early on before my next trip in the Spring. Do I want to risk finding out if my poorly battery will last 7 days without an emergency replacement of lots of dosh or run a few tests over the winter before splashing out a relatively modest amount of £100 next spring from a supplier of my choice.

So, bad luck from me switching on the blown air distribution but good luck in having plenty of time to fix it.

Look on the bright side, you have a very good battery at a very good price.

Correction, it is 70Ah and would have been £20-30 cheaper had I been able to order it online in England, so it was hardly a 'very good price'.

Have managed to do that twice but battery came back OK.

The heater circulation fan is something that really needs an indicator light to show that it is switched on.

Any ideas on how to do it, anyone?

I'd appreciate step-by-step instructions for the 'How to.......' section when you've got it sorted, Ray.

OK, just finished the job. Wasn't too difficult and the little fan warning lamp shows up both on auto and manual control. The brightness varies with the speed of the fan but even on the slowest speed it is clearly visible in daylight.

I've taken a few pics so I'll sort out some text and a how to later.

Yes Ray, me too.
An excellent job well done, which I will copy when you describe it.
I have just done a diy installation of the Ultraheat which although fiddly was reasonably logical and did not require any gas disassembly It all works and I now have the extra glow of Ultraheat and self satisfaction!!! Your light will be a really useful finishing touch.

Sorry Admin.
I carefully re-sized each picture to 1200 x 740 pixels so that they would show complete but they've still uploaded too big. They were alright in my preview until I submitted them.
OK on doing fan mods but not so hot on forum uploads.
