Eriba chassis and frame
Hi all
Just a couple of questions regarding the chassis on Eribas, I think after 2009 the chassis is galvanized
before that date were they painted or powdered steel, and if so do they suffer from rust? Regarding the frame work
again is it just painted or powder coated steel and do they suffer from corrosion? I would doubt the frame would give any problems as its sealed in.
I am sure some one on here will have the answers, great forum seems very friendly and knowledgeable!

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that it was only fully galvanised when it went into German production in 2012. The small box sections under the van were painted originally. Rust isn't a common problem but it does happen. My 1993 was very clean underneath, however I used to wire brush off any flaky paint and Hamerite all the subframe box sections. If you are looking at buying one it is prudent to look under the van and check .
I like to pop my top when I go on holiday

Thanks Poptop320, you are right its 2012 not 2009 when they started to galvanize them. The first motor home we had had a problem at the rear
of the van were the rear wheels used to throw up water etc, just wondered if there were any things to look out for specific to the Eriba, thanks for the quick reply.

You can sometimes get corrosion in the body frame tubes where a screw attaches a fitting, like the front and rear handles, bits for awnings like the Omistor or even the alloy strips that cover panel joints. However they are all bedded in mastic, or should be, which usually keeps things dry. If there is a problem you can sometimes see a stain or bulging on the inside. Nothing like Mr R's shorts though!!!!!

My 97 puck l has suffered from the usual surface rust especially on the front leading edges and underneath the door. A quick wire brush and some rust converter followed by hamerite and its all well and good. I also wax oil the underside framework once a year as it only takes half an hour with an aerosol can. There are small drain holes in the box sections underneath so its important to keep these clear after wax oiling the steel tube section as you don't want to trap moisture inside them. When im feeling really keen i will sometimes inject oil into the tubular steel work with spray grease to stop it rotting from the inside but i don't know how effective this is.

hi woody
near the step area n/s and o/s infront and behind wheels is the area that seems to be the most exposed to water
the front fairing it attaches to the box section which travels from onside to other, (under gas bottle) the plastic touching can rub with wind pressure, causing outbreak of rust.
have only needed to treat and paint on 5th and 10th eriba birthday was a belt and braces effort in our case

Hi All
Thanks for all the info, Eribas seem to have a very good reputation for longevity. Its like most things ,with a bit of TLC you will get good service
out of them. At the moment I am getting my head round buying in Holland but thats another topic for another day!
