Exchange Rate?

Anyone out there prepared to take an inspired guess as to which way sterling is going to go against the euro over the coming months?

Last week the high street was offering 1.10 euros to the pound. About the same as early this year.

We are thinking of getting some as unlike in previous years when we've had a few hundred left over, we spent them in Ireland so have none to hand.

No Political Statements Please.

Is it too expensive to change £s to Euros in France. Always used to be the case that you got better rates transferring foreign currencies to local than vice versa.

So, we bought some Euros today at a local travel agents with no commission. 1.106 euros to the pound. Better than Thomas Cook and the Post Office.

Let's see how it goes before we buy some more

Two interesting points to ponder.

Bryn, maybe we're just old fashioned but we've never considered buying our euros on-line. At those rates it makes sense to do so but the thought of doing so is alien to us.

Steve. Of course, on a few occassions we've had to top up our cash by visiting a bank in whichever country we find ourselves in but we've never considered it as exchanging money although we do glimpse at the exchange rate.

We don't take a huge amount of cash with us preferring to use our credit card wherever possible.

When all this began I was booked on a once in a lifetime micro cruise between Seattle and Alaska. From booking and paying the change in exchange rate added an extra £800 to the trip!

When we are due to leave the EU I will be out of the country wondering what the £ to NZD rate will do to my pocket. It doesn't matter what the reason only the bankers make money when it comes to money exchange.

I'll get off my high horse now...

And on a similar note. Back in 2016 the day after Brexit result I placed an order for my 2017 Triton at £20K. Prior to collecting it in Feb 2017 I was advised by Lowdhams to insure it for £25K.
