Battery Query

I know a lot has been spoken about whether you should disconnect / remove the battery during the Winter lay up, but I'm wondering whether it's as simple as removing the large fuse situated next to the battery in our 2015 Troll? I've included a couple of photos - any comments (clean) gratefully received, thanks.battery 1.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)battery 2.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

I don't think that there is any one answer to your question as we all have different circumstances.

Homing in on the root of the problem, a battery should not be left to go flat over a period of time. So, a long winter layup causes a problem.

In my situation, I am lucky to have my caravan parked in my back garden, adjacent to my garage with a power supply. In the past I did not disconnect the battery, simply connected up a short mains hook up lead and turned it on for a day about once a month to keep the on-board charger working. I have subsequently disabled the on-board charger and substituted a smart charger which can be left on permanently.

Rfjamieson, what is your situation?

Thanks, I'm particularly concerned because the battery on our Triton went flat and subsequently had to be replaced. I had charged it up via the onboard charger every few weeks.
I could use a ctek charger, but as this is a newer van with a large dedicated fuse (I think) next to the Battery, I thought it would be safer to remove the fuse and replace and recharge every month or so.
I suppose I wanted the comfort of hearing that someone with the same fuse/Battery arrangement did the same, or something different.

When I had my mover fitted by Midland Movers and subsequently a battery, they recommended that I plug the c-tek charger into a socket inside the'van and leave the 'van on EHU all through the winter. This I have done and the battery which is now four years old seems to be as strong as ever, and the only problem I have ever had with the electrics was when I inadvertantly switched off the bip when loading the underbed storage area! However I am expecting to have to replace it soon as most batteries don't seem to last much more than four years.
This way the battery, which is only wired for the mover and doesn't get used much, we don't have any 12v lighting, gets a charge everytime we hook up.
I did have to replace the hook-up socket two years ago when it began to fizz and splutter when the hook up was plugged in, by which time it was fifteen years old.
