I swapped to this from my diesel Skoda Yeti a couple of months ago.
As a solo drive it is very nice. Interior has a feel of quality with everything nice and easy to hand. 150bhp makes it "brisk" if you decide to use the loud pedal. Over the first 1000 miles it was showing 48mpg average. This equates to 40 ish mpg in everyday use and 55mpg on a good run at a satnav 55/60mph.
Maiden tow came over the weekend. 285 miles from Merseyside to Devon driving into storm Hannah. The van was fairly full, no bikes and not a lot of clothes or food, but ladders and timber inside for some home improvements of our sons. Car boot was full and back seats similar up to window level. The car/van combo seems fairly level/neutral The recorded 31mpg at satnav 55/60mph was not really a surprise and the engine only had 1,000 miles on it.
The journey back, now lighter gave 35mpg, so I cannot moan to much. the diesel Yeti would have given 36/38mpg in a similar situation.
I was apprehensive of making the move to petrol but I need not of worried. The car has more than enough go to cope with a Triton and full car up steep hills. If any think the drive was more relaxing. The power delivery through the gears is across a wider rev ranges and it was easier to keep in the power band. I only had to drop into 5th a couple of times and only once into 4th on a very steep section of the A38.
The boot has also come as a surprise as even with a spacesaver spare the boot is a good size, bigger than the Yeti. Seat comfort is not quite as good and wing mirrors took a bit of adjustment. As with previous Touran and Yeti Yeti tow-bar load seems to feel best around 50/55kg

Just thought I'd update this after a year of ownership.
Over a 2K+ miles holiday towing through France in the summer at over typical UK speeds I averaged 33mpg with a fully laden car and van. Travelling light I've seen 37mpg.
Over the last week travelling from Merseyside to south Devon without the van at a steady 55/60mph I averaged 66mpg. On the way back 71mpg average was showing as I pulled off the M6. When I filled the tank the 66mpg was actually a true 64+mpg.
If anybody is concerned about a swap from diesel to petrol then they need not be concerned regarding either its ability to tow or economy. I know this engine has had bad press in some of the VAG models, that I believe have now been addressed and I have experienced no issues at all.

HI Colin,
Was it you that offered wing mirrors for Audi A3 ?
Would you still like them?

14K miles on the clock and about 1/2 of those towing the engine now seems to have settled at it's mpg figures. 36/38mpg is the norm when towing a reasonable distance on m'way or good A roads where you can sit in 6th and cruise control. I would imagine 40mpg is possible, so the petrol engine really is offering diesel economy and Mrs eribaMotters is happy about all of the polar bears we have saved. Everyday mpg hovering around 48/52mpg.

The same engine in a DSG Karoq with 28k on the clock produced an average of 44mpg on the M6 coming up to the Lake District. Yesterday on A&B roads through the Lakes from north of Keswick to Coniston it averaged 40mpg. All of that sans any van.
I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon
But to settle down and write you a line
